RVing Cockatiels? Is it possible?

Is there a safe & comfortable way to travel with a pair of Cockatiels in a 5th Wheel? I would prefer to not adopt them out when I go full time. Has anyone done this?

Good question Sadie. I don't have any experience with birds, other than knowing when they are stressed they pull out their feathers and they can get chilled and sick sometimes if in a draft.

Had to Google out of curiousity and found this. Maybe these will help.

Oh yes, my friend Ginny has been traveling with their cockatiel for umpteen years. When they tow the fifthwheel his cage sits in
the backseat of the pick up. Mr Doc (the bird) is now over past old age as he is 27, and still going strong. Sometimes they set his cage out on the picnic table to talk to the wild birds. Mr Doc loves to travel.

Not sure what type birds but know we have at least 3 members who take their birds along when traveling.

Thanx so much. Having them in the back seat of the truck sounds perfect. One of the website suggested also had a travel cage that can be seat belted in so my little babies don't go exploring on their own if I open the door. ;)

I though your title was TRAVELING WITH COCKTAILS? IS IT POSSIBLE?

I was gonna say, "Why hell yes, it's possible...for the most part, necessary."

Then I noticed that, that would not have been the appropriate answer.

Mitch, sounded like a good answer to me. You are a hoot, I can not wait to meet you in person. KarenS

My son did not RV, but he did drive around with his cockatiel. I am, however, reminded of the time he (son) had to climb a tree to rescue the bird who had managed, even with clipped wings, to fly up there. He could not figure out how to get down since he was not experienced with trees, so son had to climb up to rescue him.

He was a great bird when he was young, but my son later had to leave him at a rescue since he was a one-person bird who chased and bit other people. My son had two young children, and he could not be let out very often. I suspect the bird was happier elsewhere, but it was sad. I believe he ended up in a home with other birds, but no children and only one adult.

I used to drive around with the bird sitting on the car passengers seat back. He was a good traveler, overall, and good with me since he had spent a lot of his baby bird time with me, also. Just do be careful about them escaping when you are stopped.
