A Reminder, I Guess...

With Pixie's unfortunate accident, I am so glad that I kept the nightlight on in my bedroom for Abby.

Our bed is a pretty high platform bed and Abby uses a ramp to get up and down on her own.
I hate the light on in the bedroom (which was originally for George after he kept falling), but kept it for Abby because she uses that ramp several times during the night. And I never let her sleep on the outside of me, near the edge.

Maybe we can reexamine our poopers' sleeping arrangements and make sure they're all as safe as can be...

Rest in peace, sweet Pixie.

Tell me if I am wrong, but doesn't your bed have two edges? How, pray tell, do you halve yourself each night to put Abby between your halves and keep her from an edge??? You must have quite the getting-ready-for-bed routine, not to mention the re-joining stitching of your body back together each morning!!! :)

Okay, I can see what you're saying!! LOLOL...

I still sleep on "my" side of the bed, even with George gone (I didn't move to the middle).
Abby likes to be close to me - actually touching me, so she's more in the middle of the bed. I never let her get on the "edge" side of the bed.
Sometimes I'd like to, though.

Peaches sleeps between me and the walls - but does get on and off the bed if needed during the night. At least she's doing that on her own, and won't fall from where she sleeps.

Pixie was curled up in the sheet and when she attempted to get up, the sheet remained wrapped up around her and she didn't make her
steps. With the sheet wrapped up around her she was unable to use her front feet to break her fall, therefor landing on her nose. This
could have happened even to a dog with vision, but she was very good at using her steps and knew where they were at the foot of the
bed. As much as we always try to keep our babies safe, stuff happens. All my dogs over the years have been under the blanket dogs,
except for my cocker spanial, she liked to be on top at the foot of my bed. She was the heavy one, couldn't move my feet with her
laying on top, bless her heart.

All pups should have as good a mom as you, Ava.

Accidents happen no matter how careful we are. Sometimes hindsight is 20/20 and we learn something for next time, and sometimes there is just nothing that could have prevented the accident in the first place. We do our best and hope for the best.
This was just one of those unfortunate freak accidents.

Ava, I don't know about a rainbow bridge, but I truly believe my son who was murdered is in Heaven with my parents, and all the animals I've loved and lost over the years are there too in a wonderful place. I believe your sweet little Pixie is there with them being shown around, free of pain and enjoying doing all the things she loves. You will see her again.
