New family member

Postby Mollysmom » Fri Dec 31, 2010 7:12 pm

Today I gave in and got my new hamster Tater TaTonka !!!
You can read the story of Tater on my blog http://travelingwithfloandrida.blogspot.com/
Molly is the most upset by the new addition, Murphy is interested but doesn't really care and Bob is mostly ignoring him. Me, I just love the little dude !!!
Here are the "kids" checking out Tater when he first got here ...

Here's the little dude himself :D

Tater seems really happy, the dog and cats don't bother him at all & he really seems to like his new home. Now if I can just keep him from getting eaten, we should be good !!

so adorable, but he was probably stressed out with his 'preditors' watching him so closely! I used to have a hamster but he was really mean :?

(have you ever seen the "Hamster Dance" on the internet? It's really cute!)
Barbie, Romeow, and Sophie, missing Lola! (and lots of ferrets running around in my heart!)

OMG, Tater looks very much like my Habbibi cat...same coloring. But I can guarantee that the half feral Habbibi would be thinking Tater was her new play toy.

I love the picture of all the other "children" looking at the newly adopted kiddo. Too cute. I'm sure Tater felt otherwise... Hope he settles in quickly and realizes he's wasn't brough in as part of the menu.

Tater isn't bothered by the other animals - in fact he sticks his nose out thru the bars on his cage and sniffs their noses ! Guess their eyesite is really bad, so he probably doesn't see them watching him & evidently the smells don't bother him so he's OK.

Do you have one of those plastic balls you can put him in to roll around the floor on? Those are really fun! Cats like to watch them too!

Tater is a cutie. My niece had two hamsters when she was younger. She also had the ball. I had Sandy with me on a few visits and she was greatly interested in what was inside the ball. Sandy was in heaven with a ball that could "move" all by itself, especially the closer she got to it. When Sandy caught up to the ball she would push it with her nose (not too gently either) and just chase after it. Not such a good time for the hamster. ;) :D

Enjoy the new addition. Linda

Hilarious pictures  I think I would worry that someone will figure out how to get that cage open :o My DD had a hamster named QT when she was little and it kept getting loose in the house. I was getting PO'd about it and she kept saying that QT got out by herself. She would tear holes up under the couch to get in there. I would have to put a pile of food in the corner to lure her so I could catch her. One time I grabbed her and she bit me :o The kids finally convinced me to spy on her one night. She could actually leap to the screw on top and hang from it and swing until it unscrewed  I would never have believed it if I didn't see it with my own two eyes!!! Can't say I was too disappointed when QT made a break for it and the bedroom window was open that time 8-) Don't think she could survive too long in the desert, but who knows? Anyway...Just don't underestimate the capabilities of those little brains...caged and uncaged...if you really like Tater!!!

When I came home from work on Saturday part of Tater's cage was tipped over and he was gone !!! I noticed Murphy my cat hadn't greeted me at the door so I figured he had found Tater !! I was so worried !! I went into the bedroom and there was Murphy sitting there with Tater - they were just hanging out !!!! Tater was sitting by Murphy & Murphy was sort of looking at him like "what the heck do I do now ?!" I cannot believe neither of the cats hurt him - even just playing with him they could have killed him !!!
Now if Molly had been out she would have killed him in a minute, fortunately for Tater, Molly stays kenneled during the day.
I've since fixed the cage so it can't tip over (super Velcro and a heavy thingy around the bottom) So far so good ! His new cage should get here tomorrow so I'll have to be sure and secure that one - I don't suppose Tater will be so lucky next time !
I still think he's super cool & I'm glad he's here !!
