Today, my very best friend in the whole world is having a birthday. My wonderful cockapoo, Krissi, is 16 today. She's been my best friend since she was 8 weeks old. I've had dogs my entire life, and Krissi is by far the most intelligent. Before she lost most of her hearing, she had a phenomenal vocabulary of words she understood. In fact, in some cases to keep her from getting excited or fearful (in the case of hearing there was a fly inside or going for a walk), I had to spell words. She eventually even figured out the spelling of "fly." Why she's so afraid of them I don't know. But the zapper I got for the RV has been one of my best buys.
The strange thing about her story is that she was from a puppy mill. I didn't know it when I got her. I responded to an ad in the paper and made an appointment to see her. She was in a town about 70 miles away and the guy said he'd meet me in the town center because it was too difficult to get to his ranch in the hills. All went well and I saw a cute, active and chubby little puppy. A year and a half later I read in the paper the guy had been arrested for running a puppy mill. No wonder he didn't want me going there! But for us it turned out the best possible.
So today, here's how she's decided to celebrate before we go out for a nice walk with Abby.
And now we're going for a nice walk on a beautiful day in Dublin, CA.
Happy Birthday Krissi, I love you so much!!!
