Sharon, her dog likes the crate - has been in one before. But doesn't like her leaving him - in or out of it. I didn't know the crate wasn't working at night, though, until here. I pm'd her that Moxie only got partially over her separation anxiety when I got her another dog. :) (Oh, and notice, Tips was Moxie's dog. And he truly believed that.)

Don't you love how we can turn any thread around to us.

I'm taking all suggestions to heart..getting desperate here. Tina also suggested feeding in the crate. Whenever I put the food bowl in there he immediately tries to bury it with his blanket and/or push it over, spilling the food all over. He's in there right now with his kong toy. Was quiet about 2 minutes. Now starting to bark. He can see me from his crate.

Sorry Susan :) ...but we are on a roll here. Liz just because he spills it and tries to bury it doesn't mean you don't keep feeding him in the crate.... Remi... when Remi first got here and even now sometimes when he is traveling he would/will ignore several meals offerings in a row....but then surprise surprise I would hear the crunch crunch and find an empty bowl.....

The hardest part is for you to remain calm through all the "panic" he spews out. He will read the anxiety in your body and voice faster than you can imagine. Be Zen..... and I am glad that the vet gave some meds for you to try while you are reteaching him....

Occasionally mine will test me with a bark fest. I usually put some music on so they can't hear anyone outside. Of course, that isn't really your dog's problem Liz but maybe some music would soothe him. I googled and found this info http://www.ehow.com/how_4479643_treat-canine-panic-attacks.html but I don't think 2, 3 , 5, and 6 could have anything to do with your situation.

There is also some good stuff here on separation anxiety. Apparently there is even medication for it. http://www.veterinarypartner.com/Content.plx?P=A&C=153&A=3144&S=0

http://www.dog-obedience-training-review.com/separation-anxiety-in-dogs.html This one talks about a treatment plan for his dog.

Hope some of this helps.

Thank you Coleen. I moved this to another topic so we wouldn't keep stealing this thread.

Liz wrote:Maybe you can all help me train Simba. We're having major separation anxiety related problems. And today we can add chewing...although that's more training me to put everything out of reach. He was just chewing his toys....good puppy, but last night he chewed Bandit's harness to pieces and the charging cord to my MiFi that were on the couch. I am going to have to crate him at night, but the last time I tried that none of us got any sleep....and probably not the neighbors either.

Liz, I posted a note for you on your other post about the Thundershirt. Check it out. :)
