Worms!!

Postby HorizonSeeker » Tue Jun 21, 2011 2:33 pm

Well, it started out a sunny morning with Gus and I at the lake early to go kayaking. A perfect start to the first day of summer and my birthday (yes, another solstice baby). But when we got to the lake it began to cloud up so we decided to just walk a trail instead. Good thing I'm a diligent doggy momma who picks up after her pup. I saw Gus squat and what came out was WORMS. Lucky I had a baggy with me and found a stick to scoop the evidence and away we went straight to the vet. Since I brought in the "poop" there was no leaving my buddy for tests. They were able to give me the medicine in just a few minutes and we went home. He took his pill just fine and seems to feel OK although he is just as sad as me about the rain here today. BTW my vet switched all her patients to Advantix this spring because Frontline doesn't seem to be working well any more. Hope this will be the only brush with worms. So disgusting.

lets not forget worm medicine usually promotes diarrhea, at least that has been my experience when I wormed my doggies as youngsters.

Doesn't the heartworm medication you give take care of worms? I give Sentinel and it is a pill that covers all but flea tapeworms.

Yes, this was the tapeworm from a mosquito. The Advantix is supposed to do better at fighting that. I feel really lucky since he's 13 just last week and just had his first brush with any kind of disease. He was attacked by an unattended dog that wandered into our yard when he was just a year old. That was really scary but we got through it. As a result, he's a bit unfriendly with strange dogs. He is feeling good now and is curled up on his quilt at the foot of the bed. I just brought it in from the Seeker to wash and have ready to hit the road at the end of the week. I think he's as ready to go as I am!

he's good as new already, give the little guy a hug for me, I don't recall ever seeing worms in my dogs poop and hope I never do.
its a fact of nature, but glad you caught the evidence before he got really sick and were able to take care of it.
