Vet Visit for Jed Today (5/5)

Postby Forestgal » Thu May 05, 2011 7:28 pm

Jed got a good report at his checkup today with the neurologist. We're not out of the woods & probably never will be, but so far, so good. Now I have to start weaning him off of the prednisone sloooowly to see if he becomes symptomatic again. If not, then we'll find a new normal for his activities, which will probably NOT include roughhousing with other dogs. If he starts to knuckle again then surgery will be our only option to stabilize his neck. I'm praying like mad that the 4 weeks it'll take him to get off of the prednisone will be blissfully boring.

He's being a good boy about staying quiet. We can begin taking 5 minute walks, but nothing more for a month. We can increase the number of walks, but not the length. And he's learning to manage his harness (an Easy Walk). The worst part about it is that he can't grab his leash in his mouth like he used to when we start our walks. Not a deal-breaker, but the cute-ness factor is gone for now. ;)

So, we'd both appreciate your prayers for continued healing and NO symptoms over the next month. I'll keep you posted.

Thanks so much, friends.

Of course you have tons of prayers coming from us...
Jed's been through a lot this past 18 months or so.
You're so blessed to have each other.

Great news for both you and Jed. Now, maybe you can relax and enjoy your "short" meanders together. carold

Molly and I both send all kinds of healing thoughts and strength for healing Jed's way. Let's hope he recovers as wonderfully as he did after the poisoning incident. I still think that could be a residual effect of what's troubling him now. But perhaps not. But perhaps so.

Anyway, thanks for the update as I have been watching for it!

Not related in the slightest, Soos. Different parts of the body involved (brain vs. spine). And I think this has been brewing for quite some time -- even before his poisoning. Thanks for your prayers and good thoughts, though. :)

Hope the big dude keeps up the progress....did the vet say if this is a genetic thing or has he injured himself in the past? Prayers and hugs for both of you!
