Just saw this...so very sorry! Last I read this morning he was doing better. Gentle hugs for both of you and continued prayers for the big dude.

Prayers and gentle hugs for Jed and a big hug for you. I know what you're going through - its so hard to see our babies go downhill. I'm hoping the meds will do what they're supposed to. Sassy went downhill so fast while I was on my trip to Port Lavaca. All I wanted to do was get her home to her own vet. I'm so fortunate to have two other guys to give me cuddles.

Big gentle hugs to you and Jed from me, and Molly sends some gentle licks for Jed's big face. I sure do hope he can recover with total rest for a while. Do you have a crate to keep him in while you are at work so he can't really move all over the place? We all love Jed as if he were one of our own, and you know we are sending all the good vibes to you both that we can muster up. As someone mentioned, make sure you take good care of yourself, too.

Well, we made it through the weekend. He's still "flopping" his left right foot a bit, but is much steadier on his feet than he was Friday.

He's been a very good boy, staying quiet and not begging to go outside. I think the pain meds are keeping him just sleepy enough that he doesn't really care -- which is fine by me. I don't care if he sleeps for the next 2 weeks if it'll heal his neck.

My biggest concern is his toenails. I've never had to clip them, as they get naturally filed when we walk. So I'm wondering how long I should let them get before trying to do something with them. And I'm not real excited about trying to cut them myself. I'd rather try a dremmel on them, but it may freak him out a little ... Any thought/suggestions from those of you who've dealt with this before would be appreciated.

Thanks again everyone for your support and prayers. I really, really, really appreciate it. Don't know what I do without you all right now.

I use a Dremmel on Buddy's big, thick nails. I got him used to it by turning it on and holding it near him and touching his nails briefly with it. As for Sophie, as you probably know, I've been sedating her to get her nails done. The vet and I don't want to continue with that so today we go in and we're gonna do just one paw. I'm taking treats and I'll feed one end while they try to work on one paw. A few days later we'll do it all over again. Isn't it fun to have fur babies?

Karen, what do you give Sophie to sedate her? I need to cut Phoebe's nails desperately. The last time the vet did it while she had her teeth cleaned and it didn't go well at all.

Laura, glad Jed is doing better and hope he continues to mend. Linda

I dremmel Spinner's nails in the summer....we started out just turning it on and holding it near him...then near his paws....then started with just 1 paw per day...now we can do the front paws 1 day and then the back ones the next.....when we are in GA, the gals at Doggy Daycare do them when he gets his bath....
