Just remember, vets, like doctors, have "pharmaceutical" representatives visit them and are often convinced to go with the "new and improved" for various reasons, including incentives. If something is working and has a good price point, don't necessarily change.

When I took Peaches to the vet for her annual visit here in CA, the vet didn't even carry most of the common meds anymore. I refused to purchase others, knowing I've had a terrible time with her and fleas and what I'm doing now is working. Not messing with a good thing. I should have thought and gotten a prescription from them and ordered on line ... duh!

With Trifexis, I have been told it is important to give it with food and not on an empty stomach. SOme dogs experience digestive upsets.....

That is correct. If not given with food, dog may vomit. That happens to me too with some vitamins.

Maggie takes Combo Guard. Same ingredients as Trifexis. My previous terriers had horrible flea allergies. Trifexis had just come on the market. My vet had put 2 other dogs with severe flea allergies on it after all other remedies failed. The results were miraculous. He recommended I try it. I did and it worked. Besides heartworm and fleas, it is also a preventer of round worms, etc.

So far both vets that I use recommend this med. None of my three terriers had any reactions to it. I would not hesitate to recommend it if your current method is not working.
