Human Interest - Young girl I know going blind

Postby chalet05 » Wed Feb 13, 2013 12:23 pm

This story is very dear to my heart and Audrey has become like a family member in the last 2 years. She is the friend of 2 of my nieces. She has started a blog and created her bucket list of things to do before she loses her sight completely. She is in her mid-20s. I am hoping to help her with her list - already have told her I would pay for the skydiving. Thought some of you might find this interesting......gives a new perspective to my aches, pains, and grumbles. I got her permission to share the link.

Anita, Thanks so much for sharing this. I saw Alaska on her bucket list. I don't know when she might make it ... but whenever it is, if you or she contact me and Fred and Megan still have the LuLu Belle doing tours, I'll pay for a tour for her and a friend. If she makes it this summer, I'll take them to dinner also.

Very moving Anita. Her story definitely does put it into perspective all our various aches and pains. I remember vividly when I had an MS episode where I went blind in my right eye from Optic Neuritis. It was really scary because there were so many things that were taken away from me immediately, including driving. I was very lucky and got at least 95% of my vision back. My opthomologist said I was very lucky. Usually people who have a total loss of sight, like I did, don't get their vision back. I really feel for her. She is not going to get the chance to get her vision back. She is inspiring because of her attitude about it all.

Beth, money is an issue so I don't know about Alaska this year, but I will certainly pass along your kind offer. I am looking forward to sitting down with her in May and discussing the possiblity of her traveling some places with me at my expense. I know it would be better with a friend of her own age, but few of them can afford that much travel in time and money.

Dawn, you have a much better idea of what she is facing just from your temporary loss.

Anita, where does Audrey live? I can sure help out with the sand dune camping and playing if we can get her to SoCal...

Sharon, I already signed you up! Just kidding, but I figured you would. Unfortunately, she lives in Port Angeles, WA. Maybe I can get her down here next spring when I come back. Actually, that's not a bad idea then I can drive her home through Utah. Plus she could see the desert at a good time. She does work but has been off because of back issues, but if I pay her expenses, I hope she can take a leave or whatever.

Actually it might be easier to take her down around Florence Oregon...they give rides on the dunes there. But, yeah, I figured I was one of your connections!! LOL! Just give me a heads up and remember that it's probably to hot in Glamis after March.

Anita, I watch Fox news and often they have a special person to highlight..they might have her on the show but even if they don't they will tell her story and money will start flowing in for her to get her wishes. The other networks might do as well but it won't hurt to contact them.

Nancy, I have certainly thought about that. At this point, I am going to wait until I get to sit down and talk with Audrey in May. I think even the local paper running an article would be good.
