Big letdown

well, I gotta tell ya, if even only to vent so I'll feel better, but ...with all the excitement and buildup of getting things done,
suddenly it feels like that moment after christmas when you realize you have opened up all your presents and there aren't
anymore. Things are done, finished, the remodel plans are under control and the wedding plans are under control. Now what?
So then today I get a new student assigned to my bus, starts Monday and the previous driver tells me he's a handful and refuses
to wear his seatbelt and parents don't make him. I have him both ways, in and out and he'll be on the bus for 45 minutes cause
he lives a long way. grrrrrrr  I'm not happy about this but it does remind me we have to take a little bad in all our good
simply because it helps us appreciate all our good. But then I remind myself how I've managed my job all these year....since
1989, and console myself with this thought....because he was a handful for her doesn't mean he will be for me. Many drivers
sometimes fuss with students when they really don't need to and create a bigger problem for themselves then the little one
it started out to be. So, with this in mind I will go into Monday with one thought "pick my battles carefully" Now I feel better
over that part of it however its going to make me clock out at 4:30 instead of 4:00. That puts me into the rush hour of all
the trash workers getting off across the street and I'll be stuck in traffic just getting out of the neighborhood. I'm also
going to have to adjust my other clock in and clock out times so I don't go over 8 hours a day. That will get me into trouble
and result in loosing something else. So I won't do any complaining, (doesn't do any good anyway) cause I don't want to end
back up with a 6 hour day when I've worked my way up to 7 and a half and now 8. So, yea, pick my battles carefully.
Then, on another note, with this cruise ship dead in the water out there, where ever, I remembered my sister and her husband
and other family members and friends (out of Wisconsin) went on a cruise and are due back Saturday. I had to go back and
dig out that email and see if this was the one. Don't think so, cause they left out of Ft Lauderdale and I think this one left out of
somewhere else. So I think we're ok there but it made me worry for a moment there.
Ok, I think I'm done venting. :D I think I feel better now.

First thing that came to my mind, Ava...isn't there some sort of rule - "No seatbelt, no ridee the bus" ? ? ?
Seems like there's a huge liability there, possibly for the school district, the bus company, and you.
Sounds like a lawsuit waiting to happen.

there are ways to manage it, however the seatbelt law only applies to private vehicles, school buses are exempt.
If the student habitually walks around and doesn't stay seated they get threatened with wearing a harnass. The
harness isn't pretty and looks very barbaric but it will usually get the point across. We do have to get permission
from the parents though to put a harness on a student. Will see what happens on Monday.

Your family may be on the one that my boss got off of Saturday morning!!! Yeah, the one is out of Galveston and is one the news constantly here.

I think it's understandable that you do have a little bit of a let down feeling - just because it's something you worked so hard for for so long and now it's done. You need some other goal in your sights.

I have not a doubt that you can handle this little guy even to the extent you might set him on a better course for his life...my guess is his parents don't discipline him but would react in horror at the use of the harness...keep us posted!
