Good news/Bad news

Hi everyone. It's been a wwhile since I've been on the forum. My Mom started having hallucinations in early January, so I have been taking her to Doctors appointments and places to have tests done to see if they can find a medical reason for the problem. We were supposed to see her MD again today, but the appt was cancelled by her primary MD, so I can only assume some result may not be back yet, so we are in a holding pattern for now. It breaks my heart because she is so bewildered herself. She's a retired RN so she is worried about herself too. So please keep us in your prayers.

Good news is I have that beautiful new RV parked in my yard, but still haven't gone anywhere yet. But soon my friends, we will hit the road if only for a short trip.

The BEST news is our Grandson Bryden Michael Swanson was born on January 31! He's got fat cheeks like his Grandma!!! If only I could hug and kiss him, but its gotta wait for a little while. He's in CA and I'm in MS....long trip...

Thanks for listening....Sounds like the FL GTG was quite the success. Maybe I can make it next time.....

Karen, thanks for letting us know - will be sending prayers so the mystery will be solved & they can determine how to stop the hallucinations - must be scary for everyone.
Hope you do get into that new RV soon & take a little trip - doesn't have to be very far away - I've taken mine to a local county park which had a good sized lake - just to sit & enjoy having all the conveniences of home with me anywhere.
And congrats on the grandbaby!! Can't wait to see those fat little cheeks! :D

Karen,

I am so sorry to hear this. This has to be a very difficult time for you and your Mom. I am adding you all to my prayers for an answer to what is going on and the doctors can treat this for her. Congrats on your new grandson. He sounds adorable. Please post pics when you can.

Karen, so sorry to hear of your mom's troubles. I sure hope they can find the cause soon and that it's fixable. And I hope you can get at least a little trip in soon to test your rv wings.

adding my prayers and ((((((hugs)))))) here. She doesn't take different medications, does she? Had a friend who started having problems and it turned out to be several of the medications she had received from different doctors were interacting and not in a good way.

Will be sending you strength to work through what ever is needed with the doctors. Medicine is part science and part art....and often frustrating..... :?

Medications can easily cause hallucinations in the elderly. My mother was sleeping all the time and hallucinating when awake after being in the hospital for a mild heart attack. It turned out that several of her new meds were causing the problem, as was the fact that I was giving her a double dose of one medication that had been prescribed under two names,. How was I to know it was a duplicate prescription. A visiting RN helped me sort it out and a geriatric physician adjusted her meds, and within a few days she was back to being her normal self.

Dehydration is another potential cause, as I also learned the hard way.

Good luck with getting all of this solved.

Karen, first congrat son the new grandbaby! And then another congrats on the new RV!

As for your mom, I sure do hope they discover the cause of those halucinations as I can understand the worry you both are experiencing. Keep in mind that some youngsters (and even some older hippies) pay good money for those experiences! (However, they are within control of the shroom or LSD eaters) I would be rather terrified if I did not know the reason.

Keep us posted, and sending happy thoughts to your mom and you while they track down this phenomenon.

Hope to soon some pics of that new baby and RV!!

I agree about the meds. While in the hospital, I was hallucinating big time. I knew they were not real but they were very distracting. Someone from the medical staff came in to speak with me and saw me looking at the wall. She looked too and then back to me. I told her the shelves were sliding down the wall. She looked alarmed but I assured her that I knew it wasn't really happening but it was still fun for me to watch. I also saw clowns and dogs. Once they cut back or cut out that medication, the "visions" disappeared too.

Besides the visions, my meds have had other side effects too, some really bad. I am sensitive to medication and have to report possible side effects immediately.

Hope your Mom is doing better and that you get to break in that RV.

Joan
