A Hitch in our giddy up to Quartzsite

Postby Redwahine » Thu Jan 17, 2013 10:42 pm

We made it to Quartzsite safe and sound. Not without a few bumps along the way. First there was a hitch in our hitch. We had trouble getting hitched up when we left home. We did not unhitch for our first two stops in Boerne and Ft Stockton. We unhooked in Tucson and had a great time exploring the area. Then this AM we went to hookup and the hitch would not work. It was half on, half off. Same thing happened back when we were at boot camp at Livingston. Went to the front desk at LazyDays RV Park and they put me on the phone to the service dept at LazyDays RV sales and service that is connected to the park. I talked to the service receptionist. She said she would find a tech to send over and would call me back. 10 min latter she called back saying it would be 10-15 min before a tech could come over. Meanwhile DH was able to get it unhooked. We drove over to the service area. The service rep pulled a tech that works on our brand of Pullrite Superglide. They determined that part of the locking mechanism in the jaw was bent. They got a hammer and beat it into submission. Then followed us to our rig and made sure it hooked up properly. Voila!! Hooked up. The tech then showed DH the proper, way to hook up with this type of hitch. Everyone else had given us bad advice. The charge?? Zero. Nodda, nothing. We were so impressed. Incredible service. We were expecting to be charged for a service call. We are overwhelmed with their speed of service and the way we were treated.

Although we had a late start, the drive to Q was pleasant. The skies were clear, the sun shining bright, temps in the 70s. We reached our RV park and the comedy of errors began. Pulled into site. Things look good. Pull way forward so the slide will not hit the power pole. DH asked if the slide would hit the tree. I look left at the tree and said its fine. So he unhooked. this time it unhooked OK. Then I put the slides out and one slide hit the tree. Yup, I did not look up at the tree to see that the branches leaned toward the slide. So closed the slide, then opened again to see how bad it hits the tree. Was touching, but should be OK. But we forgot that we had not leveled the rig yet. Can't do that with the slides open. So, close the slides again. Level, then open the slides. Leveling up the slide at a higher spot and fit just SO ...barely touching the tree.

DH sat down with the Q guidebook and decides there are several things he's interested in seeing. So we take a drive to see the town of Quartzsite. Don't sneeze, you'll miss it. We saw the 300 ft tent that will house the RV show that starts on Sat. Miles and miles of RVs boon docking out in the BLM area. Dinner at Carl's Jr. Then back to the rig. Now the real test. No TV channels via antenna and no Wifi. So we set up our Carryout satellite dish, but could not get the network stations. They were all the ones from home and not available. Called DirectTV and they have to change the zip code for your vacation location. You have to do this each time if you do not have a DNS type acct. So, gave them address of RV park and now have the right channels for DHs TV shows. Next task was Wifi. The only wifi is at the clubhouse. However, we are parked far from the clubhouse because we have a big dog. Apparently they only allow dogs up to 35 lbs. they are letting us stay here with Tyler, but we are parked out by the road so I can walk him along the highway or on adjacent properties. So, I turn on the hot spot on my cell phone and it actually works!! So we are goo for now. Really looking forward to meeting everyone that is here in the Q area. Aloha, y'all

Red, I am glad everything has been working out for you like this. I am hoping if anything else comes up on your trip it works out as well. Glad call to DirecTV got your DH's TV channels back. I sure want to make it to Q one of these winters. Later in the summer, I will be working on where I will be Workamping for the winter months. Definitely don't want to be where there is snow and ice, so will be looking for a warmer weather place, maybe AZ.

Amazing just how boring this RVing life is, eh, Red?? NOT!!! What a day you put in! It's nice that there are two of you to go through stuff like that. Being alone on the roads is not comforting to me. Molly and Dinah don't seem to be much help in pinches like that! Glad to see your latest update!

And every time you successfully make it through unexpected ''events" such as you did you get stronger about this traveling around on wheels thing. Most of the bumps in the road are survivable. (And make great stories!) I used to remind staff when I was working that issues involving oxygen and blood loss were emergencies the rest were just detours, tribulations and colorful events....and "these to will pass..."

Making sure that DH has TV to watch probably does make your travels possible and more fun! :D There is a reason mine is back in Ohio in his recliner.

Be sure you don't miss the "naked bookseller" in Q, if he's still there. Somewhere on the forum there's a picture of Sparkle with him. Too funny - just don't look down. (he actually does wear a coverup, such as it is.)
