I have been wondering where you will be traveling this year - hoping we'll cross paths somewhere!

New England and the Maritime provinces, Lord willing.

Liz, if you get a chance, try checking out Newburyport, MA and Plum Island there. I think you will find the history interesting in this old fishing village. I spent all my summers there while growing up, and my great Aunt Vida lived on one of those little narrow streets in town there. My mother was born there, also. I miss those days!

Perhaps you should join me there, Soos, it does sound like a neat place to visit.

Like reading your blog and your adventures, I wonder where you all
get your ideas where to go and what to see after you get there....

Often I start with those little red squares representing points of interest on my atlas. Others I find by researching those red squares and find links to other places nearby. Many places are found by accident....just driving by on my route. My routes are almost always the scenic byways and not the interstates.

As far as why New England...I grew up there. My sister still lives there and cannot travel, so I go to visit her. I didn't get there last year due to trip to AK. I've never visited the Canadian Maritime Provinces and they've been on my bucket list awhile. This is the year. I will also visit college friends, and maybe this year some grade school friends I recently reconnected with on Facebook. And there is usually a cousin reunion every summer...missed that last year too, and we're not getting any younger. Oh, and I happen to know of another wonderful summer tradition that takes place in NY every year...Soo's famous Ruckus in the Mountains. Not to be missed if you're in the area.

Also I never plan a trip around just what to do when I get there. The journey itself is as much of an adventure as the destination. At least it can be if you're retired and not constrained by time. I plan to meander my way.

The Maritimes! I'll be reading avidly; I've wanted to see them for years. Will you get to Fundy Bay? Gordon Bok territory!

Hooray! I don't know anything about local music schedules in the Maritimes, but I have a feeling there may well be lots of informal gatherings -- sort of the way most Irish pubs end up having seisiuns. Oh, you are going to have such fun!
