From OH CRAP to OH WOW

Had a down and up day yesterday. Thought I had hives on my side so went to Doc for antihistimine shot and found out I have shingles - I've always said you go into the Doc fine and come out sick.... He is pretty sure we caught them early enough to minimize the effects and duration.
So to humor me Bill took me for a ride around the area where we live to see the autumn colors. Posting a few pics here but put the rest of them on my blog.

Maybe today we'll go up by the little lake near here. This will be our last day of nice weather until the weekend so say the TV gurus.
The blog is in my signature .

Carol, I'm so sorry you have shingles, but at least you got checked early. Hopefully this will be a mild & short-lived case. The trees changing color are beautiful!

The changing of the leaves in the fall are one of the few things I miss while on the road....thanks for my leaf fix... ;)

Sorry to hear about the Shingles....Next April I turn 60 so will get my Shingles shot finally....I've had so many friends that have had the Shingles, and the Dr. won't give the Shingles shot until you are 60 yrs. old... So, I'll be standing in line for that one.... ;)

Funny thing is we were going to get shingles shot a couple of months ago but our insurance won't cover it over $200 here in Indiana so we decided we get it while in Mexico. Penny foolishly saved.

Hope you are feeling better. What a thing to happen just before your getting ready to leave for Mexico. Glad you got to the doctor early. My doc wanted to give me the shingles shot. I never had chicken pox as a kid, so he gave me the chicken pox immunization instead :P Now, I'm suppose to get the single shot, but that doesn't make sense to me :?:

Hadn't even thought about the shingles shot until we discussed it down in Tunica, Carolyn had gotten it. Guess I had better make a call to the doc when I get home. Hope it's a mild case for you and you recover quickly and with mild symptoms.

There are very mixed opinions I'm how well the shingles shot works. So you might still have been in the same predicament. I certainly hope the Dr is right and you don't get the full fledged pain, etc. It's one nasty attacker.

Your pictures are wonderful. Wow.

I wanted to get my shingles shot when I got my flu shot at Walmart, but they said to wait a month, so I am. However, when I get my next 220 bucks (cost of shot that insurance won't cover---I guess insurance companies would rather wait until we get sick with something as nasty as shingles and then pay through the nose to get us better?) I will certainly get my Shingles shot. Sure do hope your case is mild, Carol, as from what I hear it is an extremely painful disease. How, may I ask, do they treat it when you have been diagnosed with it? I am curious.

Glad they caught the shingles early. And what gorgeous pics! Makes me almost wish I lived further north!

Glad that you got in early to the doctor. Hopefully meds will be able to manage the symptoms and keep you comfortable. You have certainly given some of us something to ponder. Big money $$$ vs a big risk! Think I may need to check with my insurance carrier.... :?

what a shame but the pictures are lovely.
I was going to get my shingles shot last month but the pharmacist said I should not be around pregnant or newborns for two weeks after
the shot, so now I wait for just the right time when I know I won't be around the baby for a couple weeks, I'm thinking after Christmas.
My dad had shingles in his eye, TWICE. He now has scars in his eye from it, he can still see though.
Hope your pain is minimal.

Carol, I sure hope they did catch your Shingles early enough that you won't have the full blown symptoms. I too have heard it is very painful. Had Chickenpox when a kid, so when I turn 60 will check into that shot.

I loved the pictures of the leaves. I miss the trees turning color like that living in Texas. Our trees just turned brown and then leafless.

Beautiful pix Carol - thanks. I got the shingles shot ($250) before my twin grandbabies were born more than 2-1/2 years ago. Did NOT want to go thru the pain of that disease. That pain can last for years. Of course, no one knows how effective the shot is or how long the effectiveness lasts??

Take care and glad you got early diagnosis.

Linda

Beautiful photos! I'm sorry about the shingles. My aunt and I were in Branson several years ago when I had to take her to the ER for shingles.

I didn't know about the shot until later when I read about it in the dermatologist office - I got that shot as soon as I turned 60. What surprises me is the number of people that don't know the shot is available.
