Heeere Kitty kity kity ...

After two very cold nights in the 20s and unable to run my furnace in the MH (don't ask), I left the state park last Sunday. The MH is nicely tucked in at my DS's house. He and his fam will take it out for a week, then I need to take it in for winterizing.

I have solved the problem of where to "land" in Salt Lake City after selling my house: I'm renting a room from my SIL. While she was in St. George I went to move my stuff in. I walked into "my" room and found a cat had CRAPPED and PEED all over the hardwood floor. I mean, lots. It was ghastly. I cleaned it up as best I could, then called my former roomie and I slept on HER couch that night.

SIL's GD, who has cats, lives in the MIL apartment in the basement. Although she simply can't IMAGINE how my room became a default kitty box, she routinely leaves her door to the stairway open, and the door to the kitchen open as well.

After I removed the "evidence" and cleaned the floor with Lysol, nether SIL or GD can smell cat in the room, but I still can. I also bought one of those memory foam knockoff pads for the bed -- and it is out-gassing. Between the two, I've been sleeping on SIL's couch the last two nights. In the middle of last (sleepless) night I got off the couch, I went into the bedroom, took an Aleve and tried to sleep.

Woke at 11 a.m. (!!) So maybe this will work out.

Anyone know how long it takes for those foam mattress pads to gas out? It's pretty bad. I'm staying until Monday (two docs appts that day) then heading south for (quite) a few weeks. Hope it's done outgassing by then.

Usually 2-3 days on the mattress. And as far as the cat pee - I hope it didn't get down in the joints of the hardwood floor.

Janice the fact that they can't smell the odor from the cat poo and pee that does not fill me with confidence. Certainly makes me wonder in what condition they regularly keep the cat boxes. And for multiple cats there should be multiple cat boxes!!! I'm not what you would call a cat person altho I've had a few but it's been my experience that a cat wont just up and start going to the bathroom like that if not for a reason. I had one cat I had to get rid of because of some throw rugs I had bought. The smell of them caused her to Pee on them and even after getting rid of the rugs could not break her and did not want her to ruin the landlords carpeting.

But I would inspect the MIL apartment and check to see what the boxes look like and how they smell. And KEEP YOUR DOOR CLOSED at all times!!!! Also watch out for land mines just outside your door.

You might also find that once the smell of the Lysol fades that the smell of the cat leavings get worse!!!

Go to Petsmart or Walmart and get some of the urine neutralizer. Things that are made for that work better than just the cleaners. The last one I bought was ewww cat stain & and odor remover by Bissell. It seemed to work well.

Like Echo said, if they don't keep the litter boxes clean the cats will go in other places. Keep your door closed or they will go where they have been going. I would also put a water proof cover over the memory foam in case one gets in. I would think a memory foam that a cat wet on would have to be thrown away.

If it gets too bad guess you will just have to get in your motorhome and come South. At least you have a house with wheels.

Yes, good luck with the cat odor...... It may take some professional work to change that around. Vinegar and water mix helps in cleaning.... I am guessing you will especially notice an odor when you have been gone for a week or so and come back.... I have 2 cats...I notice, especially when I leave for long RV trips and trust the cleaning of their litter box to the "Pottery Man" I don't think he can smell anything. :?

Looking forward to heading south. After eight years of living alone, sharing someone else's space is kind of stressful for me. But I've talked to SIL about it a bit and she understands. When I had my roomie, she lived downstairs and I lived up -- we met in the kitchen.

SIL is at the family cabin for two days, and I'm settling in better in her absence. This situation can be a good for me if we can get past these hiccups.

I would think that part of the reason they are smelling it is in part they are used to it and in part due to the smell of the cleaners...the wild life place on north temple can't think of it's proper name used to have something that would get rid of the smell of skunk wonder if that would work or if they still have it...
go idea to go to the pet store though good luck with the problem it is hard to get rid of for sure cover you memory foam so it can't be a wetting station or not pick up the odors that you can smell and no one else can
