Airport Parking

I am planning on spending the winter in Florida, but I want to make two 4-5 day trips to see my kids and flying makes the most sense.

Have any of you parked at the airport at Tampa or Orlando Airports? Or any airports for that matter?

Or do I need to find a campground that will store my RV while I am gone? I will need to leave the refrigerator on, I think. AC will not be needed, but it would be nice to have a place to plug in if I could find a nearby RV park. Is such a thing possible? Is it expensive?

I want to leave my vehicle somewhere safe and where I will not worry about all my belongings, so I am not sure what to do.

I am mostly staying in state parks while I am in Florida, and I don't think they will allow an unattended vehicle. What do people do?

Thanks

can't really answer your question per say but have seen them park them in KOA while the camper is gone but don't know if they are plugged in or not but that (private campgrounds) might be where you can ask and get some sort of an answer...know at the KOA where we were there was a fee like 5 dollars a day but that has been years ago that we heard it...like every thing else different at different places and times there where it is season that everyone is there might cost full amount as that is what they could get..you might have to take stuff out of the refreg and freezer and let it sit in long term Good luck with finding an answer

Your reefer should be fine w/o being plugged in for 4-5 days as long as your batteries are up and you have plenty of propane. Google off site airport parking and then call them and see if they will take an rv.

Some airports do not allow tall vehicles - they have those funny metal 'knock the top off your rig' things and I have seen where the specifically prohibit RV's. So you will need to check. When I go to NM for my doctor appointments, I usually let some of my friends here at the park know and the park gate attendants get my cell phone. That way if there is a problem they can call me. My brother has a key in case of emergency. That has worked for me, at least to date. I just don't advertise that I am leaving for a week.

As long as you're paying for your site I don't think any campgrounds would object to your leaving for several days. As for your car, it would be much safer at a CG than at the airport. Long term parking has always been a thief's dream cause the theft won't be discovered for a few days.

From your post I am reading that you plan to leave the RV at a park and drive you car to the airport. I have stayed in both Orlando and Tampa airport when I have flown north and didn't have a problem at either. At the Orlando airport it was a holiday and had to stay at a remote parking area. But they are secured and watched. In Tampa, they have a covered parking lot and of course the security is quite high there. I really don't think you will have a problem leaving your car at either.

You probably won't have any problem with theft but when I worked for the San Diego Police Department, we had lots of thefts from the long term area.
