Too Much Time On My Hands?

Okay, this really isn't important but.... I have always referred to whatever vehicle I camp in as a "camper" never called it an RV. What is a "camper"? Does anyone else call it that, I seem to be the only one. Like I said, really trivial! But we did once discuss toilet paper for who knows how many pages! Ya'll have a great night!

I always considered a camper as to what goes on the back of a pickup - like what Anita has in her siggy.

That's what I always called a camper...DH and I had one, then when we got our class C, it was the rv.

Chuck and I always called our cabover a camper. When we started having 5th wheels, we fluctuated between calling them "the camper" or "the RV". It was either/or. Whatever name came to mind. Maybe because I live in Sunshine, she is definitely an RV to me.

Hmmmm well Wendy you can come clean my mobile home if you have too much time on your hands... lol
I always thought of a camper as a small pop up or one you put on a truck... guess they are all RV's (recreational vehicles) ...
When will you be here Wendy? every flat surface is covered....

I avoid all these dilemmas by calling this rolling-home-on-wheels my trailer. I noticed that my daughter always refers to it as the camper. The rig covers any and all of them!

I live in this all summer, and camp in it during the winters in FL. For some reason, I prefer this to my summer home which I lived in for nearly 30 years year 'round, but in FL, my winter home is new to me and so I often stay inside there. So I guess it's because I sometimes live in here and sometimes camp in here that makes it difficult to call it a camper. It's just my trailer!

I think a lot of this stuff is regional. In the South people talked about going to their camps. I finally realized that in western lingo a camp is what we call a cabin. A camp for me is either a place you send your kids in the summer ... or the place you pitch your tent.

I know people who call their trailers campers. Potato potahto.

Its kind of like trailer vs mobile home. A trailer is the trashy one that belongs to someone else and the mobile home is what you live in. I, too, think of a camper as one of the smaller ones like truck campers or popups.

We have an 8 ft Coleman Taos pop up that we used for local camping trip for years. Its the next step up from a tent. We call it "the camper". We have renovated a 1969 18 ft travel trailer ued for longer trip (Az last fall and heading out to Utah/AZ/New Mexico is little over a month) We just call it "the Shasta" . My sister and her husband full time in a 5th wheel and usually call it the "rv" or "the 5th".

My sister calls all motorhomes Winnebagos.

Sometimes I will call my motorhome my camper. Guess it just depends on how I feel.

If I really stop and think about it? I kinda think a slide in truck camper is what I think of when I think "camper". I guess maybe that's because that's what the first RV we ever had when I was in my teens. But the rest of them I call by what they are, ie. pop-up, travel trailer, 5'er, motor home and big motor home.  Then of course you have the buses..... ;)

Usually with this one I just call it home. We were out Wednesday night as Kelly took me to dinner. Did really fine up to the last bit then the exhaustion crashed over me. Told Kelly I was ready to go "home" and that I was gonna start working my way to the truck. She said OK, but before I got 10ft she was right there with me walking along side and when we got outside she held my hand until we got to the truck. She's a good kid!!!

But in all reality campers are RV's and RV's are campers.

Camp to me is a place, a permanent place. Doesn't matter if it's cabin, shack or trailer as long as it's permanent. Or it's someplace you send your kids to get 'em out of your hair for a while.

Camping is what you do!

Camper and RV are generic terms to me. Class B, C, A, Diesel pusher, travel trailer, pop-up or 5er are more specific terms. They all spell FUN.

Growing up we had a truck shell, pop up, slide in truck camper, travel trailers, a fifth wheel & two motor homes, they were all called campers because we camped in them. I now try to remember to call them RV's when talking to other people because when we first started looking for one some snooty lady at a dealership looked at us, asked if she could help us, I said we were looking for a camper, she kinda sneered & said she'd get someone to show us the RV's!
I say call it what you want, just as long as you are having fun! :D
