Hi, Ladies,

I would like to try boondocking but really don't know where I can do it safely.
Any suggestions?

For how long would you like to try boondocking? Overnight? Try a Wal-Mart, Home Depot, Lowe's, a church or a grocery store parking lot. If you want to try for a weekend look for city and county parks in your area. If you are traveling there are some sites on-line that lists boondocking sites around the country.

If you want to try 'dry camping' instead of boondocking which is the same, but a little different, go to a park and don't hook up and see how that works for you.

Not sure what you mean by safely? Just like anywhere else, you need to watch your surroundings and feel comfortable about where you are. I feel more comfortable and safer boondocking in many of natures beautiful areas than I do in the parking lots of Walmart, etc. But I do feel safe in those, just not AS safe, if you follow me. Maybe if you could have someone else with you when you did it the first time. When in Maine, I met another of our women rver's and we boondocked in a Walmart - her first time. She became a boondocking queen after that first night. I believe Mitch boondocked for the first time with the group heading north to Alaska this summer. Sometimes doing it the first time with someone else, can make you feel more comfortable.

Often there are boondocking opportunities in National Forests, if you have one near you. Go to the Ranger station and they will suggest places where you can do that safely. Also it's good to let them know you will be there...another safety consideration.
