I want to thank all of you for the words of support and caring during the loss of our son, Toby. Some messages from "old" friends and some from "new" friends - what a great group of women you are. Your words of comfort and prayers were very meaningful.
My son was 39, had been divorced for over 2 years, but had hoped they could get back to together. They lived together off and on during their divorce. They lived in TN but Toby had decided to move to AL to try and start over. He immediately got a day job and a night job. He had to return to TN last week and apparently the marriage was finally over for them - they had been high school sweethearts and had a beautiful 9-year daughter. On the way back to AL and work, Toby and a semi-truck had a wreck - Toby was unconscious for 20 minutes and spent the night in the hospital with a concussion. He was released the next day and he headed to AL. The State Trooper said it was a miracle he wasn't killed in the wreck. There is also a possibility that he shouldn't have been prescribed Xanax after his concussion.
Toby had been in the hospital a couple of months ago for heart problems, anxiety and depression. He had stopped taking his medication. Alcohol increased when he returned from working in Iraq. He was found in his bed on a Saturday morning. Nothing look out of place, everything indicated he planned to be at work on Monday. The autopsy report takes 4 to 6 months in Alabama.
We returned to our home in Florida to determine if my eye doctor will allow me to travel yet (Detached Retina-Gas Bubble in eye). He wasn't too happy that I had gone to Alabama, but the low elevation didn't cause my eye any problems. It will probably be another 3 weeks before we can take the motor home to TN for grave side services. His ex-wife and friends will hold the memorial service without us.
