I am about to go on a road trip with my cat, just in my car (no RV yet
). Not sure how Lola will do for 6 or 7 days on the road from CA to MN but we'll find out.
I did some research tho, on how to keep her calm on the trip. I opted out of using drugs like Benadryl, etc. I found a few things on Petco.com that are all natural products and have good reviews. One is a calming collar that has kitty pheramones in it that has some great reviews, so I am going to try that. There is also a spray you can get made of the same thing that also seems to work well. I was just reading too about some "treats" you can give them before any stressfull situation that will also mellow them out . Some people said they work really well and others said it did the opposite and had their cats bouncing off the walls. So I guess each cat is different and you have to try different things. I am going to pick up the collar tomorrow and try it out on her before we leave.
Here is the Petco.com link:

The cat was traumatized and when I got to my car where it was towed to, she jumped out and almost got hit by a car before I could catch her (it was at night). After that, I always put her in a carrier in the car.
Also, one of the gals on here who traveled with a cat, was in an accident with her RV and the cat got scared and ran off, never to be seen again. I can totally understand not wanting to crate a cat in the vehicle for long trips with the right cat (ie calm, mellow), and I would probably leave it loose in an RV or camper too. There is that slight escape (or injury) risk, tho, so you have to decide what you feel is right for you and your cats.
Sorry, no experience with camper cats.
