A New Way to Travel

Postby Readytogo » Fri Jul 06, 2012 10:34 am

This is a "no right answer" question like what kind of RV to get. And I know some would not even think of doing it. I am thinking of taking a bus trip to Branson. If some have done this, what did you like or not like about this way of travel? My husband and i years ago went on a weekend tour to New Orleansto see the King Tut exhibit (with a bus full of librarians and nuns!). It was a short trip but fun.Just wondering. Wendy

Anytime you can kick back and let someone else do the driving, I say go for it. Took a bus from Illinois to Washington DC and surrounding areas and back. Had a blast!

A club I belong to use to take a bus trip every year. It was always in early December. We would leave on Thursday and come back on Sunday. Because of work and cost of trip for some we were very limited as to where we could go. We went to San Antonio several times, Nashville, Pigeon Forge and Branson. I am not a good passenger in anything but we had a good driver that we requested every year. Because of the distance of some of the trips we had to have a relief driver who scared the hell out of me. We had a lot of fun on the trips but like some groups there were women that weren't happy with anything. Because of a few the trips finally ended because most didn't want to travel with them. On a bus trip you have to do what the trip planner schedules. If you have a good group it could be fun. I finally decided there wasn't anywhere I wanted to go with 40 women. I would sure try to check out the reviews of the bus company and travel company.

As for going to Branson, that was our best trip. Because we went in December all the shows were the Christmas shows. The decorations were beautiful. The traffic was terrible. I don't know what it's like at other times of the year. Ali is working there so she can probably give you some good ideas for a trip to Branson. I would like to go back to Branson so sometime my sister and I might be able to take that trip.

I remember a few times many many years ago that I took a bus somewhere. Hope I never have to do that again,
but I would if I had to. Sleeping and snoozing made me nerveous so I didn't get much sleep, and then way in
the wee hours of the middle of the night the bus driver would drive way to fast and the bus would sway. I
know from experience now adays that they push those drivers to much. When I worked for the charter
company, that is what they did to us. I told them I would not do out of town trips for that very reason.

How about a bus tour that would also include all your lodging, shows, etc.? I have been on a few 4 or 5 day bus tours and enjoyed all of them. Sounds pricey, but really isn't when you add in all the extras that are included. Plus, you don't have to make any reservstions, etc. The tour company does it all! Kinda nice to let someone else find the parking space, good motel, etc.

I have never taken a bus/tour type trip, but it is another option of traveling. I would be willing to give it a try.

The destination should be fun as long as you were allowed time to see and do what you would like and not get left. If its an organized deal where you have to see certain show and do certain things, not sure I'd care for it, unless it's show and what I wanted to do.

Hopefully would be nice people to converse with on the way. If you want to do this, don't go by our opinions, do it then let (warn) us know how it was .

How many days is the trip and do they have hotels (motel) rooms for everyone?

If you go , have a great time,

I do the bus trip to Atlantic city. My girlfriends did it every few months to go to the casinos..we all had a blast and well worth not dealing with traffic and parking...worth a try to enjoy and relax!

God bless

My mother and I took a bus 'tour' of the Pacific Northwest about 10 years ago, so I don't know how relevant our experience was. It was really nice to have someone else do the driving, make reservations, tote the luggage, provide a narration of what we were seeing. However, it was not so nice when a few members of our group insisted on dawdling at each stop and making the rest of us wait on them.

It depends on what is included in the price - if they make all the arrangements, I would definitely say yes, especially if it involves show tickets. If not, are you good at finding and making reservations online? I think based on your location and the destination, I'd definitely look into it, but ask questions of the tour company. You don't want to be stuck on a bus full of teenagers, for example (well that depends on you of course :D )

Cari's experience reminds me of a cruise I took with friends. One family was late for every meal. It wasn't just us that were aggravated, our waiters had to get us fed and out for the next seating.

On the bus tours there were women that would stand up in the aisle and start digging in their stuff holding up every one behind them. Kind of like on air planes.

I went ahead and signed up for the trip. Martha, the tour company is safe and reputable. Ive taken their casino trips, daily and one overnight. To the person who asked about the price, it was no more or maybe a bit less than I would spend on my own. 6 nights lodging, 10 meals, 7 shows. Two shows I've seen before and really enjoyed werent included, but about four were ones Id pick myself. We overnight on the way back in Little Rock> I probably would not visit the Clinton library on my own, but who knows it may turn out to be more interesting than I would think. We aslo have some free time, some time at Branson Landing (ashoppping entertainm, ent place) and downtown Branson. I think it will be fun. Wendy

Sounds like a fun time to me to, Wendy. You should have posted all the facts, as it all sounds really good. Seems you've checked everything all out and does sound really good.

I will hope for nice companions on trip, thoughtful , curtious (misp??). When do you leave ?

Have a great trip !!!!

That sounds like a fun trip, Wendy. I'm glad they included some free time - if you're like me, that 24/7 togetherness can get a bit old after awhile.

Oh well, would have been a good trip! Posted in morning coffee one day last week trip was cancelled due to people cnacelling. Was a really good price fgorwhat was included I thought, but the economy being what it is I guess a lot of people are releuctant to spend on extras. Was really looking forward to it, one reason being i would have people to do things with for I have found I don't really enjoy traveling alone. Well actually, don't mind the getting to and don't mind if there is something to do. But I don't enjoy just going to a cg and being by myself. Yes, campers are friendly but most are invlolved with their own families or groups. Well, didn't mena to get off on that. Not whining or feeling sorry for myself, just don't enjoy that type of traveling. Wish I did. Lots of rain here overnight, flooding in some parts of town. Pepper is usually not bothered by thunder, and even he was cowering last night! Everyone have a safe and fun day! Wendy

There must be more than one bus tour company, isn't there? Hate to see you miss out.
