A little glitch at 4AM

This campground is on top of a mountain in the Pocono area of PA. As I was standing outside with Duncan at 4:00 this morning I happened to see a deer going through the lighted area near the comfort station. Luckily my little hunter missed it or he would have woke up the campground. If I had to be up before daylight at least something exciting happened.

I had to improvise my coffee making this morning. I have a Keurig that they gave me at work and I guess it didn't like sitting over the winter. I knew last night it was not going to work so had plenty of time to think about how I was going to deal with coffee this morning. Luckily I had some filters in the cupboard from my old coffee maker so put water in microwave and poured it through the filter. Worked for me at a time when I needed it most. On the agenda today - buy new coffee maker. What really is a b---ch is that there is a perfectly good one sitting in my mudroom at home 300 miles away. I think a cheap one will do for now.

Today we only have about three hours driving time and then I get to practice backing this monster into a campsite. There are no pull through sites at the next planned stop. My Mom always told me to practice, practice. Now I get to put that into action. I can do it, I can do it, I think I can do it. Hope there are no men standing around

Oh, that was fun seeing the deer, even though it was 4 a.m. I ocassionally do boating access sites for the park I work at and one day last week when a co worker and i got out to one of the access sites, we saw two deer on the road on the way out and a loon was calling on the lake near the access. Neat. One of the perks of the job.

Of course you can back that big rig into a campsite. You know you can. And if there are any men around, so what. I've seen men tryin to back into campsites here at the park many times, and have to go at it a number of times, so just because they are men doesn't mean anything. I've seen wormen do a better job many times too. Everybody needs practice, nobody's born into it.

Have fun and enjoy the trip.

When I saw you had a glitch, I had to chuckle when I read it was your coffee maker and nothing worse. There's no doubt in my mind you'll back into your site just fine. Drive safe and have fun!

you will have already backed in by the time you get back on line but for reference don't be afraid of how many times you might want or need to jump out of the rig and check clearances in the process...the more you do it the fewer jumps there are but do it as many times as you need to until you feel comfortable. Also be sure to check were all the tree branches are that want to grab and scratch your rig roof and sides. :) Those pesky short guard posts and guard rocks are favorites...don't ask how we know... Sharon has a famous rock story regarding her beloved "Hope"! :D

And if you have a slide I already posted the perfect picture on my blog as to why you have to figure in your slide clearance as you park.... :o :) And it is always acceptable to accept and/or ask for help.

Now get back to the fun stuff. :D

I understand the need for coffee and the creative ways one can figure out to get it! As to men standing around watching, if they give too much advice just ask them sweetly if they would do it for you, might be interesting to hear their reaction or to see how good a job they do!!

Well, I'm sorry, but I just can't imagine anything going worse than the coffee maker quiting! But, as we coffee drinkers know, where there's a will there's a way!! I WILL have my coffee even if I have to chew it!

Not to worry about the backing up, you'll do fine. As long as I've been driving I still get the willies when I have to back in, 'specially if it's tight. Trust me, absolutely no one can jack knife a trailer faster than I can, so I have the greatest respect for you ladies dragging a trailer behind you!!

And oh yeah, if there's big rocks, watch the ones in front, too! As well I know. sigh.

Have a cane handy and act dumb those guys will help in a second!!! oh my what fun experiences you are having...
I might add to Tinas' comments those water connections that are low and unmarked!!! I hit one a couple of years ago... they said it happens all of the time...

I'm with Sharon....NO COFFEE = NO BLOOD PRESSURE, NO PULSE. I am rather cranky without my coffee. Glad to see you were able to improvise.

Geez Louise ladies! This is one very capable woman. She doesn't need a man to "do it for her". She is going to be just fine doing it herself. You go, MizDeb. Sharon and I have total confidence in YOU. Doesn't matter if it takes several tries. Just get out and check for clearance. If some man offers to help--tell him thanks and you wouldn't mind a spotter but you can handle your own rig.

My emergency coffee maker is a funnel looking thing that sits on top of a cup. You put a filter in it and the coffee and pour hot water through. If I don't have electricity I can heat the water on the stove. Some trips I am really lazy. I make a large pot of coffee at home and put it in a container in the refrigerator. It takes me long enough to get on the road without making coffee and cleaning up.
