Bike Rack Question

Sorry if this is the wrong place, but have any of you had experience with bike racks?

I am looking at the two-bike Swagman racks. One appears to fit into the hitch in the rear and the other seems to have an option to fit into the hitch and also to attach to the rear bumper. Do any of you have one of these? I can't seem to find them in Camping World stores near me or in bike shops, although maybe I need to do more calling tomorrow.

Thanks

Check their website for a store locator. Amazon.com also sells them

I have a Yakima hitch rack that I use on the truck. If I had my druthers I would go with something like the Swagman with supports for the wheels. My Yakima, the bikes hang and I then have to secure the front wheel to the frame so that it doesn't spin.

Don't know what kind I had since I don't have a bike anymore - so got rid of the rack - but I got one that hooked to my bumper as I didn't want to use the hitch receiver (never can know when I'd want that for something else) - which I did - first for my scooter rack, now for towing my car. I loved the one I had - was simple and worked well. I just don't love bikes lol

She didn't like the scooter either and I tried to get her to ride that. No go. She is okay with the car as long as she gets to come with.

Got the Swagman XC last night at Camping World. They had it on sale, and the one I got had both the hitch mount and the bumper mount, so I can use either. Darn thing is really heavy, though! It has a place for the tires to rest in and clamps at the top, which I hope will fit my girl's bike OK. Glad they make hitch receivers and bumpers so strong on these RVs! Also got the pin lock for the hitch mount so no one will steal my bike, rack and all. Lady said NOT to lose the key because it is really really hard to cut the rack off the hitch through the 3/4" lock pin.

Now all I need to do is to get my son to install it and buy a heavy cable lock for my bike.

So many locks and keys to not lose!!

Judy, if you have a girls bike, you need this, too....makes it easier to put the bike on the rack and strap it down. There are several different models, but I found this one to be the cheapest and better reviews.

Thanks. I didn't know those existed. I won't be installing the bike rack until June, but I will definitely keep this in mind.

This is what I bought, but it also has a bumper mount if I choose to use that instead of the receiver mount: http://www.amazon.com/Swagman-Cross-Country-2-Bike-2-Inch-Receiver/dp/B0001VO1YY/ref=sr_1_1?s=sporting-goods&ie=UTF8&qid=1337443137&sr=1-1

Got it from Camping World so it is returnable. Got the back end of my minivan full of junk so no room to haul my bike until next trip. Also, my son will not have time this weekend to install it. So will have to do it next trip.

I can see why people buy the smaller folding bikes so they can stow them in a storage compartment!!
