It has been a very tumultuous 6 weeks here in little Folkston, GA. At least at site 12 it has. This spring I had bronchitis and couldn't shake it. Also had trouble finding a local doctor that would take my insurance from TN. Finally gave up and went to the VA in Lake City (yes, girls I was in the Navy 8 years and left on a medical discharge) which turned out to be a great place with some wonderful folks. I was given lots of ass-kicking meds and got over the bronchitis very quickly but since it was the 3rd time I had had it in a year tests were in order. My heart and lungs were thoroughly tested and COPD and pertusis (whooping cough is back on the rise and I could have been exposed as a schoolteacher) were ruled out. Turns out I have developed asthma but it is easily controled with meds. Whew!! That COPD thing had me scared. Along the way I was sent to the women's clinic for pap smear and mammogram. Seems I have neglected these things for a few years. OK, I confess that after dh died I have let myself go a bit.
Long story short, I have spent the last 6 weeks in and out of Jacksonville Memorial being poked and prodded. Who knew there were so many torture devices for a woman's breast? They were doing all they could to avoid actual surgery to remove 2 mysterious masses from my right breast. And the whole time I was trying to keep cool and figure out how my rv life was going to change if what they found meant surgery, chemo, radiation, and who knows what. Not easy for me to keep this calm for this long. But yesterday I got the final biopsy report: BENIGN. No more tests/instruments of tittie torture. And more importantly, keep going forward with my rv life!!!
I have to say that the owners here at Okefenokee Pastimes have been really supportive through the whole thing. They let me make up some of the hours I missed and in most cases didnt care. They just sincerely wanted me to be alright. I leave here at the end of April to return to TN and see family for a few weeks. Then I start to work for GA state parks as a camphost in Newnan, GA the first of June. Life is good and the rv life is great. And I am incredibly blessed. Amen.
