We said goodbye to Les yesterday afternoon at 4:45. He died surrounded by his family as he wanted. After almost 7 months on hospice he lost his fight to live and fight he did right up to the end. I feel as though my heart has a huge hole in it right now. When you spend most of you life with the one you love your supposed to want what is best for him. I didn't want him to keep struggling to breath, but I so wish he had not had to leave me to find peace.

For those of you who are just starting this journey it will be the hardest and most rewarding job you will ever do. I promised him he would not have to go into an institution to die and I will never regret keeping him at home and taking care of him myself.

Deb, Take comfort in the next days, that he is now not in pain and struggling here anymore. You did all you could for him, now, Its time to try to help you. You will have thoughts of this time for a long time, but hopefully one day, you will be at peace with the fact you did all you could, you followed his wishes and enjoyed his company every min. for as long as you could. He will always be in your thoughts, but one day the pain from this time in your heart will be easier to bear.

We are all here for you with Hugs, and a helping hand to continue on, and one day, you will be ok.
Being in this group of women is the best place for you right now, we are all here for you.

Deb I am so sorry for your loss. My heart goes out to you. Let everyone give you strength going forward. These last months you had with Les are priceless. As one who has just started the journey you have just gone through, I sure want to send you any comfort I can. The ladies here are wonderful and they will be here to comfort you too.

Hugs and prayers for you and your family. One of the few times that I saw my mom totally vulnerable was when I sat with her in the time after my dad passed away at home. Even though he had been on hospice for 4 months, she still wasn't prepared for that final good-bye.

((((((Hugs)))))) I Know what you are going through. It will get a little easier. I lost my husband almost 10 years ago. But I had tears in my eyes after reading your post. It's amazing what does bring them back to you, a remembrance of times together.
