Tax Question

Postby bikerchic777 » Mon Mar 26, 2012 1:53 am

I read that I can deduct my medical expenses if they are at least 7.5% of my adjusted gross income. If I'm already getting all of the taxes I paid in back, will it do anything for me?

Do you have any other deductions? To get the medical expense deduction you have to use Schedule A for deductions. It wouldn't hurt to run the calculations but I have a feeling it won't make a difference.

You were right, Maggie. I ran the numbers, but Turbo Tax kicked out the medical expenses. I remember my tax lady trying it for me before and she said you almost have to have something catastrophic happen to use medical expenses. With EIC, I am still getting back more than I paid in taxes, so that feels pretty good! Plus, I qualified to file for free for both federal and MI state. It was a good day ;)
