new stage in our lifes

Postby snowball » Tue Mar 13, 2012 11:44 pm

Almost six years ago my husband retired and we moved into our 5th wheel in May. he retired in July and due to technicalities we stayed in one place for 4 months. due to his health we are going back to the same campground...He talked about fulltiming for years basically dragged me into this life style kicking and screaming...now I"m dragging my heels all the way...

Larry's prostrate cancer is one of the more aggressive ones and his health has gotten so he isn't able to do the things he enjoys doing...he began Chemo last week which he will do every 3 weeks for 6 treatments and hopefully that will slow the beast down at the same time he is having to have blood transfusions and right now is in the hospital because of de-hydration sense I already had the ticket to come to Q and pack up the trailer so it can be moved we decided I needed to come down as planned. If any of you are ever in Salt Lake City or near it give us a yell and we will have a gtg would love to see any and all of you...

Sheila, so sorry to hear about Larry's cancer. I sure hope the chemo can do it's thing and get rid of it soon! My dad had prostate cancer and he had tiny radiation beads inserted and that seemed to do the trick for him, altho one migrated thru his abdomen and ate a hole in his lower back! Took quite a while to heal up.

Sending prayers his way and also to you for strength and support.

Sheila:
Treatment of cancer has really improved over the past few years. I have couple friends who had Stage 4 cancer and are fighting it in a very successful manner.

Shelia,

Prayers for you and your husband. With all the newer cancer treatments out now, hopefully something will slow this down and he can enjoy fulltiming for a few more years yet. I know what it's like to have a familly member with this dreaded disease and all the pain and worry it causes. My grandmother, my aunt and my mother all had various forms of it and of course treatments aren't what they are now, so they eventually lost their battles. If they had been alive now, I'm sure the outcome might have been different or at least their lives prolonged. Hang in there.

Thinking of you and Larry, Sheila, and sending strength your way. My brother was diagnosed with prostate cancer, and, like Barbie's dad, had radioactive beads inserted into the prostate. The after effects were next to nothing, and they brought those cancer levels to a screeching halt and then reversed them to below a normal reading for a man his age! He is now 10 years older, and still basically cancer-free! I am sure your doc might offer Larry that treatment in lieu of the chemo type? It seems to me that the side-effects were about nil with the pellets. No need to remove them, either, as they just become dormant after a certain period of time.

Whatever treatment you opt for, may it work fast and be long-lasting so you two can get back out on the roads!

Sorry for your plight, Sheila. My BIL and 3 friends all had prostate cancer and all had the seeding. Don't know Larry's situation, but I remember my BIL truly thought this was it. He constantly made comments about when he was gone. He didn't believe anything would help. It is now about 6 or 7 years later and he's still doing fine. Hope Larry's can be turned around, too.

I'm afraid your role will be as cheerleader. It's hard to be the cheerleader when you're torn up with worry yourself, but cheerleader it is. Some days you will want to smack him on the side of the head, but the hard job of cheerleader is to always try to be hopeful and "up". Good luck! Take care of yourself as well.

May you both find the strength that you need for this new to you journey. No one can give you their road map. Their map is not your map. All you can do is keep doing with what ever strength you do not think you really have (but you do) that you find again each morning because it is morning.... and that is what morning needs. Just that we greet it. Find what ever joys there are along the road that you can. I know there will be some. Let those sustain you when they can. The outcomes will be what they will be. Keep breathing. Laugh when you can. Cry when you must. We will all be thinking of you.
