For those of you thinking I'm just a ditzy brunette-gone-gray-gone-blonde-gone-red head, I'll have you know I am already planning for the Culinary Comfort of my Alaska Traveling Companions...FRESH HERBS. Two of those pots will contains cilantro and basil. The third is up for grabs. Suggestions, anyone?

Sure wish I could bring a Traveling Grape Tomato plant, but my Garden Advisor has advised against it...

Oh, and just because - SHUT UP, Vickie!

Are there any rules about transporting live plants across the border?

Well, I just read some, and I'm going to give it a go. I'll bet my 3 little plants will be confiscated. And we'll just have to eat bland, ucky food. I so love fresh basil. Dried doesn't even compare...

And thyme is a great suggestion.

Sigh again.

Thyme is my favorite go-to herb, too.

I don't think you'll have any trouble with your plants. I doubt they'll come in your rig, except when you return.

Oh, you'll have to make something when you visit me - I doubt I'll see any fresh herbs all summer. Make some guacomole with your cilantro please, pretty please :)

Okay, fine - if I can find avocados! And to use the basil, how about some delicious bruschetta, with garlic rubbed italian bread, fresh tomatoes, EVOO, and fresh basil. Oh, if they don't let me bring it in...

I just wanna hit the road NOW!!! I am getting beyond excited, which is making me just want G's Life Celebration over because of the bittersweet sadness it's going to bring and the memories it's going to stir up...

Just so you know - widowhood sucks! All 3.5 months of it.

I hope they don't look. When we went to Calif in 1997 they looked all around inside. I can just hear you saying "but officer they're HERBS!"

Sounds very yummy, Mitch. Fresh basil is my favorite too.

If you can't bring plants, bring seeds. Things grow fast in AK summers....has to.
