CBS show on RVing women

I just watched the News in the Morning Show on CBS and thought their segment on RVing women was very disappointing to put it polite terms. It really didn't show any fun things, to me the focus was --hey there's a bunch of older women traveling alone and here they are. Then told all the ways women try to make it look like a man is with them. Has anyone else seen it yet?

I saw it too and thought it was way too short to show much. They could have had a little less Jaime and a little more of the other women RVing. Sharon Souter said they followed the Ramblin Roses all around Bandera but showed almost nothing of that. Focused on an interesting 82 year old woman instead of showing a little diversity in the ages of all the women that RV. Also showed the guy "helping" her unhook her water. Wow, bet she really couldn't have handled that one alone. Also nice of Jaime to mention the various things some women do to make it look like they are traveling with a man (big boots, a mannekin, etc) so if you happened to be one of those women, forget those ideas.

I saw it but without sound as my hearing aids were not handy. Here's a link

Maybe they will have video on line later.

I never try to make it look like I have a man with me. What's the point? Guess I'm not sorry I missed the show - and I was planning to go find it online later. Unfortunately sounds like most of the reports the news do on Amazon and workamping. Someday maybe they'll understand us - but I doubt it.

It wasn't all bad. If you missed the show but would like to see it I did find link to the video (the one on CBS wouldn't play but this one does)

Jenny posted a link on Facebook so I watched it instead of fast forwarding my DVR to find it. I thought it was good and interesting.

Loved the video, thank you Sarah for posting it.

I really have to wonder just how many women resort to using manikins, dummies or blow up man dolls for security??? There's a lot of women out there that I wouldn't want to piss off and make mad or scare. I would also imagine that there have been more than a few men who have had the crap scared out of them when they confronted or tried something with a lone woman they thought would be an easy mark!  I think of Sparkle turning her dog loose and saying "get'em Bogie"!  Women who stay here in the states also carry shot guns. As far as I know there is no restriction on taking a shot gun across any state line. Just got to make sure if ya shoot some cretin that it's "inside" your door. If your that worried about security I sure the heck wouldn't rely on a dummy or a pair of boots. I'd make sure I had a gun handy and a nice big, well trained dog!!!

What does make me nervous is all these kinds of stories coming out. As more and more people see/read them and start hitting the road? You just know the government is gonna find new ways to stick it to us!!!

Thanks Sarah for posting that link. That was a pretty good clip. They really didn't say anything that hasn't been discussed on this forum, and we know people read this forum. So I think they did a good job, could have been more but what there was, was good.

Gosh, I thought I was gonna be the grinch in this thread. I'm disappointed that they sent a man out to do the story, and thought it was awfully patronizing. The overemphasis on the the safety issue vexed me. We are wonderful, capable, interesting and talented women who choose to travel and/or live in our RVs. We don't need men to "help" us set up or take down.

I just tweeted my disappointment. Hope it reaches them.

Considering it was short, I thought it was a good job. I wished they would have shared more stories.

Thank you Sarah for posting the video... I thought it was very balanced and interesting... they only have a limited time for any segment... loved it and the 82 something lady ah that gives me another 10 years at least...

I actually thought it was longer than expected - and like Janice I thought it was condescending. But better than things in the past, so they seem to be (slowly) learning. They just don't get us - at all. And I thought it was very condescending that they tried to make it look like we need help attaching hoses. Geez. So, of course, they needed a man to do that. That said, I do think they have progressed. Just have a long ways to go.

I think it's great if I'm having a problem with a hose or anything else or need help at all that some one - usually a man - will offer to help. Nice to know there is still some courtesy around. Didn't find the clip condescending at all.
