This was a blog post that disappeared when I tried to publish it. Since we are in Yuma and I didn't have to play the d*&^ board game or stay home to clean, I had a chance to try again!

Liz, thanks for that question! It reminded me to Google the mine: http://www.mindat.org/loc-33470.html LeRoy's guess was gold so he was pretty much correct.

Thanks for the pictures Anita, that's the only way I'll ever see underground--willingly :) My daddy was a coal miner and I always begged to go down into the mine on the little carts but back then women of any age were not allowed as it was considered bad luck. I do remember though that Elenore Roosevelt was allowed to go down at some point but it wasn't until they had to let women work that it happened again. I wouldn't have wanted to be one of the first to get that opportunity
