Her legacy will be that she taught so many thousands of us so much about bears and their behavior than any books or lectures could have ever done. I have an entirely different outlook on black bears than I did before knowing Hope, Lily, and Faith. I feel as if I have lost a family member, and it hurts like hell, but I can't blame the hunter who killed her as he believed he was legally ok because Hope refused to wear a protective, colorful collar indentifying her as a member of the research team's bears. I would not wish to be him.

There is still a chance that she is alive because they have not found her body or a hunter who admits to shooting her. In most states, hunters do have to report that they have shot bears using their permits.

They know who the hunter is who set up the bait area where she and her mom, Lily were last seen the day she disappeared. He has not told the researchers yet if he shot a young bear there, but if he did shoot a bear, he had to report it to the DNR, and the researchers are waiting to hear from them if there was a bear fitting her description killed in that location. Hopefully, they will know soon...

I am sure the hunter is nervous right now as there are some very angry people out there. The researchers have promised NOT to give out his name for his protection.
