I finally did it!

Postby Irmi » Mon Sep 26, 2011 3:34 pm

I gave my 3 months notice at work today. I've been working for an electrical contracting business my father started, which is now owned by my brother. We have reservations to spend the winter in Florida and I needed to do something so I can start training someone to do what I have done for the last 34 years. Although I have mixed emotions, I am ready to face the world and start a new phase in our lives.

If you already plan to be gone for 3 months, you are ready to start your new life. Good luck! And let the training begin.

Congratulations....and it isn't as if you aren't giving sufficient notice :) Just don't ask Nan how that works  The time will fly by and you will have fun planning for the winter adventures.

Good deal, Irmi! I gave 6 months notice...did they hire someone to replace me? Heck no! I kept bugging my boss to advertise, he didn't, March 1st rolled around, and his answer was...I didn't think you would really do it! Anyway I hoped you wouldn't!! I ended up going back as a retired annuit to do interviews and run contracts until the new guy could actually be hired. (Long long process with Ca state jobs) That was ok, I got my retirement plus salary for 2 months. But June 1st I pulled out of the driveway for a 4 month shakedown trip in prep for the Alaska trip. And the new guy didn't start for another month. That was in 2005 and I haven't looked back once, in spite of many phone calls from the boss begging me to come back. None of the guys liked the new supervisor. I figured it was payback for all of the times they sat in my office whining about why they couldn't finish a job.
