First overnight trip

Postby Redetotry » Sat Sep 17, 2011 6:30 pm

It took me long enough but I finally went on an overnight trip. I went to the Kunsfest at New Harmony, IN. My friend who has camped a lot stayed with me and we hooked up in the dark. I kept wanting to get to our site at the city park earlier but she said no problem as long as I had a flashlight. I wouldn't say it wasn't a problem but we did get plugged in to a really old rusty plug. It was a 15 amp so got out my adapter and first did the polarity check. Hummm how to read this gadget. Knock on the neighbors door who said you are checking what?--- just plug in! So plug it in we did and thought we were successful. By that time the friendly neighbor had come over and explained how we could tell if we were really on electric by seeing if the light on the microwave was on. No, it wasn't so he went to the post and repositioned the plug so the weight of the plug was supported and not hanging down and the light appeared!

We experience the helpfulness of this man earlier in the evening when we first got there & were wondering how to save our sight since it was on a first come basis and he said just leave your rig here and take my toad to go look around down town. We didn't but I'm sure when ever I think of my first trip I'll think of this friendly neighbor!

Beautiful old barn down the street.

New Harmony is such a pretty little town and the festival is always lots of fun with many food and craft vendors plus a big flea market on the main street.

Congratulations on your first overnight! And sounds like you learned a lot. What a generous neighbor you had! Your rig looks beautiful. Did the hot water heater work?

Liz, we didn't get a site with a water hook-up and since we were only there a short time we didn't turn it on, my friend took one look at the size of the bathroom and drove out to Harmonie State Park and showered! I was coming back today so I just waited till I got home.

I remember my first trip....nervous hardly describes it. And it is a good idea to check the polarity before plugging in.

CONGRATULATIONS!!!!

You did it---you've done had your first overnight! And you learned things, as well! Nice that you had someone to share the experience with you, and that your neighbor was so helpful. I will never forget that first trip I took hauling my old trailer behind me to the local KOA, about 15-20 miles away. Each and every thing I did was so new, and I was so unsure and acting like I had done it for years, and my hands and heart were quivering! But what a feeling to get hooked up, set out your chairs, and make your first cup of coffee!

Here's to having many more fun nights with your beautiful rig!
