I recently had my transmission rebuilt.
Hired a young man to take it out, took it to a transmisssion shop for a rebuild, and same young man put it back in.

Sadly, said young man failed to tighten hose to transmission cooler.
transmission fluid drained out, transmission chewed itself up.



Transmission shop has agreed to rebuild the transmission again for cost (this time they'll do the removal/install).
So, I'm stuck in Dublin CA (where the shop is) until next week (I agreed to wait til they had a hole in their schedule).

well, there goes $800 I didn't need to spend....

Ouch, that hurts! Sorry that happened, but glad you can get it fixed again.

Ouch. Glad they are fitting you in at cost, though. Not sure it's the location I'd want to be boondocking though. See if you can talk them into giving you some free electric while you wait.

I'm just having my little adventure in Dublin. Bethers is right, Dublin's not exactly my idea of boondocking heaven.
And, since I'm still driving on the transmission, I'm NOT moving far - 2 short blocks in the morning to Starbucks, spend the day and return to Target's parking lot in the evening.

Well, they re-fixed the transmission, and didn't even get to the top of the price range we'd agreed on before the repair.
On the other hand, when the tranny was broke it made an\ loud evil buzzing noise. Now it's just making a buzzing noise.

But overall, I gotta say they did a pretty decent, fair job. It was really the installer's fault. And it turns out it wasn't quite so much his fault - when the shop got the transmission out, they discovered that the problem wasn't a loose connection, but a leaking one - the hoses are old and getting brittle (I can relate 8vP )

Well, Irmi, I'm not quite ready - still need to do the permanent repair on the hoses, and the engines got 'issues' as well.
But it's getting closer! I've been up on jackstands in the parking lot of Tech Shop all weekend. My mechanic's a nice guy and very competent, but doesn't want to work more than about 4 hours a day, and that sorta when he feels like it - I'm happy with that, he does good work when he comes, and if I'm gonna be a boss I'm not gonna be like my bosses always have been.
He and his girlfriend were going to a concert, he worked on it either side of that, friday and saturday, so this morning I'm expecting him some time and he'll finish the job up, at least enough to get me back on the road.

Your patience level definitely exceeds mine.

I'm so sorry for all the delays and mishaps you are having getting things fixed. Just wondered has anyone given you an estimate on how much it is going to cost you to get your RV road ready?

My patience doesn't exceed yours, I just don't have a choice.

In retrospect this isn't the vehicle I should have bought, but after I come out the other end of this I'll presumably have a vehicle whose status I know well and which should stand me in good stead for many years.

It's slowly coming together, and I'm thinking I'm going to be much better off as a person for having been through it , lol.
Not to mention, Mama Bear's gonna be much better off

Tom removed the alternator, which had a frozen bolt, probably the cause of the squeal. We had a heck of a time getting it to go back together, and eventually took the radiator out - a big job to get to a small repair!
Tom did some of it, and I did some of it - yay, Annie's 'wrenching' (as the guys call it) on Mama Bear! Monday Tom did the actual repair, and I did some of the putting back together.

Tom found the cause of the ominous nrrrgggg.... nnrrrrrr... noise. Turned out to be simple - it was the power steering pump low on fluid. Yay! turns out I probably don't still have transmisison problems.

We found a leak in the fuel line, that's still to be repaired.

Lots of small stuff got repaired along the way.
