Finally...a story I can share

so ya'll know how much I love my airport job, people are so excited and friendly getting on the bus to go on a trip.
Its always rush rush rush and many passengers forget their cell phones on the front seat and end up asking to go
back to retrieve it and things like that. So friday evening somebody comes in, parks, luggage ready, gets on the bus
and off to the airport they go. Someone noticed later on, apparently when it got dark and the headlights were
on.......they left the engine running!!!! The car is locked so no one could shut if off and it finally ran out of gas
sunday afternoon around 2 ish. Then of course the headlights stayed on until the battery ran down. The battery
is not a problem cause we have those little jumper boxes for cars with dead batteries but we don't have gas pumps.
Management left a note on their window letting them know what they did and that they would need gas to get
off the lot and we very courtiously picked up a can of gas for them so they could get down to the gas station
down the street. From friday evening to sunday afternoon.....I'd say probably a full tank of gas. It was a Lexus, one
of those Q56 suv cars. Don't know what size their gas tank is or what kind of gas milage they get but I'd say that
particular tank of gas didn't get very good gas milage

Good story Ava and I feel sorry for them too but it is funny, they must have been headed out for a really good trip. I think Paulette is right unless like Ava said they hit a remote start button. Lots of 'newfangled' gadgets out there now!

The truck I have now was purchased in "cold-country Canada' and it had a remote start that finally ran amuck! The mechanism would get triggered and it would just start up by itself and run and then turn itself off. I had fellow employees that noticed it while they were walking in from the parking lot and they just figured I was warming it up while I was still in my office....I'm sure I am gonna do that...not one of them mentioned it to me. I was in my house once and I thought I heard it running way out by the barn where it was parked and my husband said, "Yea, right, it's gonna start all by itself!". Then I went by myself to vote at the local elementary school and got out of the truck and it started right up, the keys were in my hand....talk about creepy! I instantly thought of the movie "Christine" where the killer car drives around by itself. So, we had that mechanism disconnected. I believe it would be trigged by nearby remote frequencies....but like you said, in this case these folks likely inadvertantly hit the button on their key-fob.

I have remote start on my key-fob also, but when I start it remotely, it only stays on for 10minutes. I am thinking this poor soul just had that infamous "moment" and was in a hurry. Probably thought they put the keys away and pushed the lock button inside and voila off to the airplane. Might have felt rushed to catch the shuttle LOL

I have frequent "moments" but dang that is a biggee, unless the car malfunctioned. Sure wish you could tell us the end of the saga ha ha
