Picking a name

Postby Anniepoo » Mon Aug 15, 2011 11:05 am

You all have been bugging me for a name for my 9000 lb baby.......
So, I'm having trouble picking.
I'm on my 4th one. Each time it drives me crazy.
The previous ones:
The Ferdinand Magellan (Ferd for short)
Greenie (It had green stripes)
Sundial (it was an off brand class C, not the VW thing, but was called a 'sundial')

and generically, I've called any of them the home-o-car from time to time.

Aaargh... .how do you pick a name? What did people name theirs? And why?
When I die I'm gonna be cremated. I can't stand the idea of spending eternity in a box with no wheels.

Usually the name just makes sense, like my little red pickup, her name is Lucy because she's a redhead. ;) Other times it will sort of pop into my head and have some sensible connection; my old jeep was silver so I called her Belle (Silver Belle), the old SUV was "Bean" because her color code was cool vanilla (vanilla bean). Hmmm, guess all my names come from color.

I started calling mine The Beast mostly because it was so big and it makes a low growl when I start it up. Possibly not the best name for such a pretty rig, but it stuck.

I have never named mine. If ever a name falls into place, then I would - but so far, never named my cars or my rv. I do have a name for my GPS - but he talks to me :)

My rig is Bunkie because it has bunk beds. My car is Herbie because it is an HHR. Just seems to fit.

Call my 23 ft motorhome (MH) Little Missy cause it felt female and is small for a motorhome.
The name just popped into my head and stuck.

Okay, I'll chime in. Flitter got her name because when I bought her my son said he hoped I could flitter around the country. I visualize her "sign" as a hummingbird, flitting hither and yon. I think she has a thing for the RV repair guy because she spends a lot of her time with him!

My rig is only 22 ft long and a little while after I got this one, some one was posting about their BIG BUS and I then referred to mine as the Short Bus, not to confuse anyone. It also helps to know that I worked in education with children with severe disabilities for 30 years and all but about 1 of those students rode some version of a "Short Bus".

When Bush and congress were so proud of their "Leave No CHild Behind"...we didn't get all that excited, regardless of whether they planned to not to leave us behind, we knew that congress and regular educators didn't know how to take us with them....and we knew that we were still not going to ride many of their buses...... :?

Annie, maybe you should name her Big Baby. I agree it is hard to pick a name, I'm still looking for one for mine. So far I've only come up with LC sort of short for Late Life Crises or Dream Machine because I dreamed so long about getting one but that seems too long. :?

I'm not serious, but I think about naming her Legos, cause she's had almost every part replaced since I got her.

Seems like she's often 'the clipper', and sometimes 'the vehicle', or 'the car'.
