OK, I've got this job coming up in Okefenokee and as I look at the websites in the area I see lots of birding action. I have always been intrigued by the birds and can spot the ones I know for around my home area. But how do I go about starting a real birding log? What equipment do you suggest? Looking forward to this as another benefit of the job.

We had a nice long conversation on this subject in part on April 6. Here is the binocular part.

I'll look for the book part, or in might be in with this.

Here is online birding sites.

Books are covered in the online site. But I use about 5 or 6 general guide books and then a bunch of specific guide books, e.g. sparrows, gulls, shorebirds, hawks, warblers and etc. I can give you the specific names if you want them.

I think one of the best on-line bird sites is the one by Cornell University
