Aaaah .... you know the old saying is that when the student is ready, the teacher appears? I think also when one is truly ready for something new ... the new arrives on schedule. Check this out:

Exhibit A: I was wondering whether to visit my stepson at the state mental hospital. The universe delivered the best opportunity to do that.

Exhibit B: When I was in Friday Harbor, I found I am MUCH happier working ... and decided I want to return to work. I got a call out of the blue from the editor of the newspaper in Friday Harbor. He's pretty close to offering me a full-time reporting job. But I'm going to pass because I've found that Utah IS home. BUT ... by chance (ha!) I found out a couple of days ago that my friend/old boss from my radio reporting job is now news director at the university NPR radio station (which has a statewide reach). She has already given me one freelance assignment, with more to come, I'm sure. Went to visit with her yesterday and the morning host (another longtime colleague/competitor) asked me if I'd also be willing to sub as host for either Morning Edition or All Things Considered. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think this is called a "foot in the door!"

Exhibit C: I want to start dating. Immediately I met this lovely gregarious fellow and we went on a couple of dates ... then it went bust. But y'know what? I hadn't been REALLY kissed in a long time. So that was VERY nice. So that dipping toe is now moist.

Other things on my WANT LIST:

Fix my knees: Today I have an appointment with an orthopedic doc to look at my balky knees & figure out how to get me M-O-V-I-N-G again!

A clean house: Hmmm .... maybe Oprah will come!! Never mind!

Yaaaay, Janice! It sounds like the universe really is cooperating for you lately.

Your excitement reminds me of a period about 10 years ago when I was separated from DH, daughters were becoming teenagers with a vengeance, and I had very little money. New Year's Eve, I made a list of all the things I wished for and wanted to accomplish. Darned if three years later I found that list and was able to check off every single thing!

Keep going with the high you're on right now and I know things will work out beautifully!

That is all great news Janice! It all happens for a reason and it all happens in it's own time! I hope the rest of your list gets taken care of in good order!

OH Janice, things are falling right in place for you. I like the idea of lots of freelance work - will still allow you to travel (And I do still think you should head out here the beginning of November for the TX GTG.)

I'm so excited for you. Life sure does give us lemons, sometimes more often than we want to make lemonade. But it also gives us lots of opportunities, and we need to be ready for them. It sure sounds like you are now

I've always believed that when a window closes, a door opens. Sound like your doors are opening - Go for it!! And I agree with Beth, come on down to Texas.

Oh it sure sounds like things are looking up for you,.. I'm so glad for you. Life is the journey, not the destination, (I saw that on a poster, and i like that saying!) and it sounds like your journey is going to have some exciting chapters. Good for you!

I told you to FLY.....and looks like you are...... I'm so happy for you!!!! And by all means, please do come to the GTG in TX......gee....what a time we'll all have!!!!

Well, I went to see the knee doc today, and wouldja believe it ... a surgeon did NOT recommend surgery! He prescribed physical therapy & fixed me up with some pull-on knee supports for when I exercise (or generally need them). So I'll cooperate with all of that, plus I want to start doing yoga. Flexibility is one of the areas in which I've suffered ... so I'll work on that as well.

Life is good.
