What fashionable people wear when motoring about...

I'm thinking ahead to what will be a major lifestyle change next year as we start full-timing. Currently my wardrobe is mostly work-oriented (trousers, cotton shirts, etc.) which I spend a fair amount of time ironing. Do you all have any suggestions for clothing that is a little dressier than jeans and a t-shirt but is easy to maintain on the road? I will be doing odd work here and there and will need to look a little put-together for potential clients/employers, but won't have the space or inclination to iron often. I like natural fibers but have a feeling I'm going to have to learn to appreciate polyester. Thanks for any help!

can't help ya in that dept. I'm a jeans and tshirt type of gal. Get the no-iron fabrics though, at least that way when you do laundry and add softener it will tumble out the wrinkles and you won't have to iron on the road.

Guess it would depend on what type of job you would be doing and what area of the country. I'd have one pair each of kahki and black pants (as no iron as possible) some nice button down shirts that could be worn as a "jacket" over nice t-shirts or camisole, at least 1 jacket or sweater and 2 pairs of closed, comfortable shoes. Neutral pants mean that you could put any colors with both. If you wanted you could add some skirts if needed. Even though I don't work, I carry some of that with me for when we go to the "big" cities or out to a fancy restaurant. Actually, I carry a lot more of that with me since I have closet space to spare carold

I wear a lot of cargo pants, the kind that will roll up or zip off into shorts. I also go for tops/shirts that don't need an iron. Of course I do have a few T shirts. I donated all my khakis and polo shirts emblazoned with the school names to incoming new teachers (with a grin). Oh, and I love wearing the top half of my tankini swimsuit with shorts or jeans for driving. Saves wear and tear on the bras and it's cool but still a bit modest.

I am a shorts and t-shirt kind of person and am still working, but thankfully my office is mostly jeans and t-shirts with no writing.

Over the years, I have found a few outfits that are terrific for travel, and yes, they are polyester! (Polyester will start to become your friend now!) One outfit is black slacks with a top which looks a tiny bit dressy because it has some ruffles. I love it because it just never wrinkles. I am going to be in your full-time situation in a couple of years, so that one is definitely getting packed.

I also recommend sweaters, short and long-sleeved because they can be folded and don't wrinkle as easily. Ditto for thin shells that don't require much care and can be worn inside of a jacket for a suit-look. Sweaters and shells with polyester slacks look good. LL Bean used to have some no-iron twill slacks.

When I full-time, my plan is to pack a bin of business-type things for emergencies. I teach online and am hoping I can do some consulting online with occasional in-person meetings. My wardrobe for online teaching is jammies!

What is your comfort clothes? Mine are sundresses. I have some "fancier" ones that I could wear for almost any kind of meeting. They are easy to care for and in nice weather it's what I wear. I also have some capris that are lightweight, inexpensive, and look better than the price I paid. Add a nicer vneck type tshirt, and they can almost be dressy. But they can also be very casual. Try to mix things that will work both ways for you. And that you find comfortable. As for shoes, I found nicer sandals worked with it all.

During the summer, or when in Florida I l mostly wear a sleeveless print sun dress made of machine washable cotton, no ironing. If going out to dinner, or just want to look a little more dressed up, I just wear a lightweight neutral lite color lace blazer over the sun dress along with cute leather flats.

Very comfortable in the heat and humidity.

Megan, I don't know how much wardrobe space you have in your rig. But I try to bring one or two nice blouses and a jacket (mine is leather) that can be paired with a good pair of jeans (dockers don't like me), and a nice pair of neutral shoes or boots. The rest, as others say, are shorts, jeans & T-shirts. NOTHING I own has to be ironed.
