TracPhone and Net10

Postby Colliemom » Tue Jun 21, 2011 7:18 pm

Just wondering here. I am looking into getting a cell phone Iyeah I know, I'm behind the times  ). The biggest reason has been the lack of good phones for those of us with hearing aids. Now there are more models out then before. Since I have my land line phone through my cable company, it's just as cheap to keep it as to get a cell. So I decided in order to try it out, I am looking at TracPhone. No contracts etc. I know that some of you on this site have gone over to TracPhone. Now Net10 appears to have a similiar thing to TracPhone. Anybody use Net10? And do those of you who wear hearing aids find that one brand of phone, say Samsung, Motorola, LG etc. is better than another for interference. What's the experience been out there with this?

If you have hearing aids that air blue tooth capable, you can get hearing aids that work with that and takes the sound directly to both hearing aids. So far I've found the cell phones I've used are often better than regular phones with my hearing aids (I'm not doing the blue tooth thing yet). And when I'm in my place, I put my cell phone on speaker phone and that works great.

I don't use either of those phones - just make sure whatever you get that it'll have service where you need it to.

I use an old Tracfone...Motorola. So-so for hearing aid. When I upgrade (probably next fall) I will go to a Blue-tooth model, which Tracfone also has. I also have a Smart Phone (Droid) thru my daughter's Sprint plan (her idea). It is way more phone and $$ than I need, and tells me it's roaming more often than not in my travels, so plan to give it back to her in Nov.

I have had Tracfone for several years now. Can't help you out with the hearing aid thing, but I do know that when Linda and I were traveling across the country that she lost service at several places and I had service no matter where we were. I like them. If you get one, order a phone with double minutes so you can save money when you order more minutes. They have lots of phones to choose from.

I, too, use Tracfone, and always have service anywhere there is service for any cell phone. Tracfone uses other companies' towers, and there is never any roaming charges with them. I have had double minutes for years, and also take advantage of any promotional extra minutes they might offer, so I now have accumulated over 2500 minutes, or units, on my Motorola Blue tooth capable phone! The blue tooth feature allows me to use it with my Sync services in my truck, which means that when the phone rings, I can answer it with a button on my steering wheel and just talk and hear it through my radio speakers. I can also use it to download directions and turn-by-turn driving instructions via Sync services.

They were wonderful in transferring the units that were on the phone that got washed overboard while I was in FL, and the new phone came with extra minutes and an extended amount of time before I have to renew. I go for the yearly thing they offer----99.00 for the entire year with 400 minutes, doubled, so 800 minutes. That way I don't have to worry about my service running out every month. For me, it's a great deal. Of course, the only place I can't get service unless I stand in a certain spot on this property is right here at home! Cell service here is not available here for many with cell phones, although some seem to work better than others. I stand by Tracfone. I used it often in FL while at my son's house, as they have no land line.

This is really encouraging. My iPhone contract ends in August ... and I'm looking to cut back AND get better coverage. I'll keep reading ...

I have the Value Plan with Tracfone. Every month they automatically add a certain amount of minutes to my phone, and if I need more minutes before the end of the month, I can get discounted minutes added on. That way you don't have to remember to call them to get more minutes each month. There is no contract either. Just sign up and/or drop it when ever you want.
