Motor home shopping

Good Morning ladies,
I envy those who are in PA, sipping and making marshmellows, but some day I hope1
I have had a couple interesting days, I have been shopping for a motor home right here locally. I must be crazy it has been so hot, and humid with bad air quality but could not contain myself.
What an experience....I have learns much and have changed my thoughts more than I could ever imagine. Is anyone out there driving a Meredez deseal engine..I owned a Meredez at one time; loved the car however the maintaince bills were
unbeleivable. Would love to hear anyone's opinion on that one. Other thing I learned, one can get a very good deal on a brand new motor home, visus a pre-owned because dealers are really wanting to sell the inventory. The trick is to find
what one wants first. Which brings me to the next motorhome questions. Is anyone driving a Forest River rig? The also make travel trailers & 5th W I think. Of course same company, Hathaway, and would like feed back on that one.
I want this house to sell....I want to be on the road...I guess I need to sit back and listen to the what God wants of me, right, I never was good at being patient.
Still would love to find someone who is willing to take on a companion, teach how to "RVwomen" for awhile and then get my own rig. Please keep me in mind when talking with eachother, okay.
What a wild ride life is! It is so much fun! I will now have to get myself ready for a family event in SO Dak, will drive my care there beginning of the month. Take care everyon...travel safe. I know, I am long winded and love to ramble.
God Bless Rita

Hi Rita...no help here on motorhomes. We have a 5er. But where and when in South Dakota? I'm in the Southeastern part of the state. If you have family in the state I hope they aren't being affected by the flooding...well actually everyone in the state is being indirectly affected in one way or another....but I hope they aren't right in the flood plain.

First rig I had was a forester, by forest river. Class c, 31 feet. I liked it okay but it would beat me up driving it. Traded up cause my dad said we needed something more comfortable. It was a good rig and I had no problems with it. Took a long trip to Texas to pick up my gd once with my sister and dad and 2 dogs in tow. We had a good trip but the driving beat me up. If I still had it I would get the steering stabilization put on it.

Don't know anything about any of the others. Hope that helps.

I haven't heard any bad things about Forest River - well, nothing that isn't a personal decision, anyway. That said, I disagree about the good prices on new versus used, must be a dealer saying that - and must be an almost new used rig - sold by a dealer. Yes, there are deals, and I was almost convinced to buy new once ;) The only time I think the new prices are reasonable are at the biggest rv shows. But that's me.

I'm pretty sure Sprinter has a Mercedes Diesel. I opted for gas for the lower maintenance costs and lower gas costs. I know tha advantages of diesel and when weighing them for myself, couldn't convince myself on diesel. Again, that's just for me. For the same reasons I couldn't convince myself to go with a Class A - maintenance costs would have knocked my socks off :) And that's just regular maintenance!

You need to find the one that speaks to you - whether diesel or any brand. There are good and bad about all of them. And the answers you'll get from us will be as varied as the rigs out there. As to driving - when I drove my g/f's truck, it tired me out the first 15 minutes. I drive my rig, and can drive for hours. There is something different in all of them. So drive what you get - if it needs stabilizers, go for them. Mine didn't. I think her truck alone did.

You ladies are all so great, each has good advise and I love reading all your comments.
ATTENTION jpf:
Yes I am going to go to Southeastern SO DAK. My family all live around the area of Sioux Falls. They had flooding probems earlier but i guess I should check and see if it is going to cause problems when I next travel. Weather is just something one can not do anything about....Just pull over and wait it out!
Maybe we should plan to get together in So Dak if you are not on the road by then.
As far as shopping, I love it, gets me excited to think of the future, but I am going to make certain what I buy Is checked and re-checked. Not only in my mind but at the tech's hands too. Of course there are sales men and they like to sell, that is what their job is.
have a great weekend, travel safe and God Bless Rita

Rita, I have been shopping, shopping, and shopping for a "new to me" rv. Looking for something smaller than a 30' that I have. Just looked at the 2012 ACE by Thor Motor Coach. What an absolute beauty. But then the new 2012 Storm and then the Bay Star, too were quite beautiful. Then there was the 2008 30' Allegro 30BF and the 2007 R-vision Trail Lite which were quite nice. But then there was the Winnebago Via 25T (a Diesel) that is really beautiiii.....get the picture, Rita? They are all booottteeefulll! So you just have to keep looking. So good luck on your search and just keep looking.
