I've been planning a tentative route to Coffeyville, Kansas today. Used a few guidelines:
1) An average of 250 miles a day
2) As many free overnight parking spots as possible, using several resources
3) Color in more states visited on the map
4) Enough spare time to check things out and explore a little

Since I've never driven east of Santa Fe, NM, I'd really love some feedback from those of you who know that part of the country well. I might stay in Santa Fe two nights, we'll see.
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Day 1)San Diego, CA to Gila Bend, AZ------287 mi-------Camp at the Petroglyphs campground - been there before, love it. Very quiet

Day 2)Gila Bend, AZ to Willcox, AZ ------204 mi------Want to check out the RV park in Willcox - almost decided to workamp there this winter

Day 3)Willcox, AZ to Truth or Consequences, NM----223 mi---just because I like the name

Day 4)T or C, NM to Santa Fe, NM----211 mi---visit a friend in Santa Fe

Day 5)Santa Fe, NM to Amarillo, TX----281 mi---Color in Texas on the map

Day 6)Amarillo, TX to Oklahoma City, OK---259 mi---Color in Oklahoma

Day 7)Oklahoma City, OK to Coffeyville, KS---180 mi - Color in Kansas

Anyone see any problems such as horrible traffic, etc? I'll be driving only the 23 ft RV, not towing the pickup.

The only down side I can see is the toll roads and I don't think you can avoid that - I think there was one in OK and on in KS - I can't remember what I paid but it wasn't more then $5.00
Some of the cities are biggish so there'll be traffic but I drove thru it so it must not be too bad !

The only problem I see is that you might want to spend an extra night some of the places. I love Santa Fe - don't know if you've been there before - but it took me all day to walk around the old historic area (and they have a city parking lot right in the area that takes rv's - i was so impressed about that.)
