Hi all, Well John is finally semi retired and we are planning our first big trip this fall. Presently we are renovating a 1969 Shasta Lo Flyte to use as our "home away from home" while we are on the road. Our big decision right now is purchasing a new tow vehicle. Currently we use an GMC Astro van for towing our Coleman pop up and while we love it, it has too high a mileage to trust it on the road. We need a vehicle for towing 1800 pounds and gets decent mileage. We have been looking at mini vans. Do any of you have a smaller vehicle that tows this weight. We aren't interested in an SUV or pick up.

I loved my Astro when I had it and it had the tow package. Why not get another one with lower milage?

Our search for a low mileage Astro has been unsuccessful. Now we are looking at a Jeep Liberty. My eyes are beginning to cross from doing computer research. Any pros or cons from those of you who may have driven/towed with a Liberty? I research on....

I've never towed anything before my little Fun Finder, but the Toyota Sienna pulls it just fine. And from everything I've read, the Sienna is a mighty fine towing vehicle. Mine is a 2006 (I think) and came with the towing package. I understand that is now an option. It has a 3,500 pound towing limit.

I drive a Liberty and tow it behind my coach....not sure I would want to tow anything with it tho....it's pretty small and has a short wheel base. Short wheel base vehicles are prone to roll overs. And not sure if the brakes are big enough to stop you in an emergency or going down mountains.

I had a 17' TT and pulled it with a Toyota 4Runner that had the towing package. With a tail wind got up to 18 mpg with a head wind more like 14 mpg. Was a great vehicle.
Now I have a MH and my toad is a Chevrolet HHR (4 banger but great gas mileage) and lots of room to put 'stuff' in it.

I agree with Sharon,
If you want a Jeep look at the Grand Cherokee, it should be able to tow over 5000lbs.
We had a Cherokee for years with a 6cyl engine and tow package that was able to tow a 21ft boat and trailer that weighted almost 4000lbs. To bad they don't make that model anymore, best vehicle I ever owned!
