Quick post and request

Hello Ladies

I wanted to share a quick request and do an even quicker check-in.

Today at 3:00 I have an eye appointment with the eye surgeon to find out what can be done about my double cataract in my right eye. I don't have much anxiety about upcoming surgery as I have heard such promising reports from so many friends who have had cataract surgery done. My anxiety has to do with I only have one eye (my left eye is artificial). It just concerns and worries me because they are going to be dinkin with the only eye I got left.

I did speak to my doctor in Bellingham, WA and he said that in my situation I will probably be down for a couple of days instead of just an afternoon/day. The bummer in that will be if I have to keep my good eye/recuperating eye patched I will be in the dark...no reading or watching TV though i can listen and also listen to music.

Anyway, if you think of me this afternoon I would appreciate good thoughts and prayers. The other issue along with the surgery is the financial cost...we will find out how much it will cost and since I am not blessed with health insurance we will have to find a way to come up with the money for the surgery...and my Bellingham doc wants it done sooner than later.

Other than that we are doing fine. Still enjoying our jobs here at Lone Star Corral and visiting new areas. We try to go for a drive each weekend and Memorial Day weekend we are going to Medina Lake Thousand Trails from Friday evening to Monday afternoon so that will be nice. Once we return to the park I will put out my Americana decorations...they will stay up till after Labor Day...I just love to have all the red, white & blue decorations out and my little lights...love to just be in the motor home in the evenings with those little lights shining.

Well need to finish up stuff here in the office before closing at 1:45 to head into Hondo to go to the doctors.

Talk to y'all soon with an update.

You'll be in my prayers, Ali. George is almost blind in one eye, so the eye doc took special care when removing the cataracts from the good eye - I believe a stitch or two for insurance, and a slightly longer recovery. Everything went just fine and he still rarely has to put on his glasses (to read).

Good luck!

..

I'm on the northeast edge of San Antonio if you need some assistance. While understandably still concerning in your situation, cataract surgery is pretty common and straight-forward these days.

I certainly can understand your concern but I think you'll be more than happy you got the procedure done. I know I am!! And my 78 yr old sister got her second eye done last Thursday and all is well. Let us know what you decide and know we all stand with you. Hugs!

Adding my own hopes and good thoughs for you Ali! My mom has had cataracts removed from both her eyes. She had to wear a little cover with holes in it (looked like a pointy little collandar :o  ) which she could sort of see out of. Hopefully, they will give you something like that. Sending you lots of positive vibes and anxiously awaiting an update when you can.

Ladies thank you all so much for your prayers and encouragement. This is the update that I typed with huge print and sent to my pastor and my counselor from home...my eye is pretty sore from being dilated...the doc said I was having an allergic reaction --- yeah me!!:

I am typing this big so I can see it...Dr. Grabow dilated my eye and so my vision is very blurry but I wanted to share with you about my appointment.

Praise ~ I don't have diabetes retinapothy (sp) which would complicate the cataract surgery.

What I do have ~ I have 3 different cataracts on my eye. One that is like bike spokes, one is a yellow (very common) and one other one that had a real long name that neither Ron nor I can remember the name. The good news is that my eye dilates real well which is one of the things that has to happen for the surgery to be a success. He is also of the same mindset to do the surgery sooner than later. It will happen in June if he gets a cancellation or in July at the latest.

Next Tuesday I have another appointment with him...at that appointment they will do an A-scan...it has to do with measuring the lens. Then I will have an EKG, chest x-ray, blood tests and some other eye exam and then will be scheduled for the surgery. All this will be scheduled as quick as can be so that if there is a cancellation for June I will be ready.

Today's appointment was $125, the hospital will be around $5500 +/- $500, and his surgery which will be between $1000 & $2400 depending on how much he has to do. + whatever the EKG, chest x-ray and blood tests cost - we have $9000 in the savings account...which without any complications will be enough for all this to happen. So God has provided the money...and we are so thankful He has.

I will be off work for at least two days and it could be as long as a week. Bonnie (the VP of the park and our boss) says they will work around me having this surgery. She is a successful patient of Dr. Grabow's and is glad that he is able to help me. We of course will pray for just the two days to be off.

And of course there is risk as in any surgery...worst case scenario is that I will not heal correctly and possibly not see at all...best case scenario is that within a couple of days I will see better than I have in years. But he said I will always need glasses to protect my good eye. On another note my eye socket looks great and he was pleased with that.

That's all for now. I will write more when I can actually see what I am writing.

Please thank everyone for their prayers... God is good and faithful and we see his hand in so many things that are happening in our lives.
