Just talked to Sarah (bluepinecones)

Since I hadn't seen any posts from Sarah I gave her a call. She is OK but Huntsville is really a mess. No power, curfews, searching for missing folks. It sounds really bad. She does have some food at her home and has filled some extra water containers since there is talk of water shortages before all the power can be restored. Mostly she seems concerned because she isn't able to find out about her family and how they all fared. Keep her in your prayers girls.

Glad you got ahold of her. I couldnt get thru on house phone, I left a message on her cell. Didnt know it was that bad in Huntsville, we got news mostly from here Cullman and Tuscaloosa. I rode out to my sons, his damage was not too bad. I probably can't get the camper up tp the lake this weekend, lots of the roads are closed. The news is just getting worse and worse, death went way up overnight. I am going to see if I can take some water or snacks down to the shelter or something, it just doesn't seem right not to do something. Everyone stay safe, we have had our excitement for awhile. Wendy

Good news about Sarah and Wendy, and I am hoping for good news about their families and friends as well. This is no usual tornadic activity----this is historical and Horrendous. It makes me so sick to see the pictures of what happened. I need to get home to my mountains where we don't have tornadoes like that....sometimes a sideways wind event, but nothing like that.

Thanks for the report.

Hi everyone, Sarah called me a few minutes ago and wanted me to let you all know how she is. Hunntsvillegot hit a lot harder than they're reporting down here. No power, it could be days or longer. intermittant phone service and she was going to go to Publix in the am where they said tyhey would charge cell phones. The main problem is she can't use use c-pap (dont know if thats right0 machine. If they get gas stations open she may go north to a motel. Not much is open toward this way, dont know if she could even get here. This is far worse than you can imagine. Ill report back to you all tomorrow. She does have a neighbor close by that brought her some batteries. All the rest of you, take care. Wendy

thanks for the update Wendy, and for those that don't know, a cpap machine is for breathing while you sleep. I have many
friends that use a cpap machine.

I have updates from other friends in and around Huntsville - here's some of what one sent me:

"We are fine, no damage at home. The devastation is unbelievably extensive. I had to drive 50 miles south to get generator fuel this morning & couldn't get over what I was seeing: stripe after stripe of incredible damage, on & on & on. The pictures on the news are just a small portion of what is out there in the rural areas. It is said that we will be without power for 7-10 days at least, as the Brown's Ferry nuclear plant suffered a lot of damage & lost the 2 transmission towers that feed power to half a million people. Pieces of them are in the TN River. Some electric co-ops have been able to get power from other sources to small areas (some on the mountain got some power back this afternoon!), but have 20 gals. of generator fuel just in case.

Hope you are doing well - glad you were not here to experience this in a camper!!!"

Another friend told me she doesn't have land line working, and cell phone only sporadically and no internet. Funny, what does work (same during a hurricane in TX) is the text messaging - and the message above came that way.

I just talked to Sarah. She has heard indirectly that her family is safe, but the whole area is without power and will be for a week or more. No gas available for many miles around. The few groceries open on generator power are rationing food and no ice available. She has no generator so has to sleep sitting up w/out her c-pap. Food in her refer & freezer is at spoiling stage. Her cell phone service is very iffy.

We agreed that I would keep coming in her direction as planned and keep in touch as able. If I can get there, I have generator, propane, & refer that may be of help. I'm leaving in the morning and will be near the AL/GA line tomorrow night.

So keep her and all those affected in your prayers. Sarah says to thank everyone for your concern, thoughts and prayers.
