The "Old Bag" and the "Air Bags"

Postby kdmac » Thu Apr 21, 2011 2:37 pm

I am almost embarrassed to have whined so much about this air bag issue. But, due to the money involved it did "deflate" me for a bit (pun intended). I had to wait for Monday before I could contact Stumpy, at which time he answered his cell and said, "Hey, give me five and I will call you right back."...click, never called back. Next day I called again and forced the issue and got him on his front desk phone; told him I was going to a mechanic (Dennis) on Wednesday and he (Stumpy) needed to answer his cell phone on Wednesday when Dennis called with details.

So, Dennis finds the problem is two-fold...like I said, TOO CLOSE TO THE EXHAUST PIPE SO THE LINE MELTED, and one of the airbags was not mounted correctly and was now loose...that was the rattling I heard. So, Dennis fixes it and is ready to give Stumpy the call and I am right there with him, Dennis puts it on speaker so I can hear.... Stumpy answers, "Hello" Dennis says, "Hello Stumpy this is Dennis at Gold Hill Auto Repair"....Stumpers says,"Hey! Give me five and I will call you right back"....click. With eyebrows raised and head cocked I look at Dennis and say, "He won't call you back." Dennis figures he'll give The Stumpers five or ten maybe even 15 minutes to make good on his word. So, Dennis and I chat for 20 minutes or so about this thing and that thing and finally good ol Dennis has waited long enough; tells me to go ahead and take off without paying him and he will handle it from here. About an hour later Dennis calls me to say he got it covered on their Credit Card and all is well, I thank him for his efforts and wish him well. Can't say the same thing about Tillamook RV Repair and The Stumpers....a man's word should be his honor.

I'm happy you found Dennis and he got it squared away for you. And thanks for the heads up on Stumpy in Tillamook. I'll certainly remember him should I ever be that way and need RV repairs, or if anyone else asks me.

That's exactly the point...these RV, and other types of, repair outfits should be aware that we are all on the internet with each other, all across the county...and that most of us are traveling to the "highlights' which the Oregon coast is one of....I did joke with the Stumpers early on that I am online with RV'ers and he better treat me right. we chucked at that, but seems he forgot cuz he didn't treat me right. I know that he had given me a quote for "hours of labor cost" and once they had some trouble getting the wheel well covers out so they could mount the airbags their time was running out so they hustled to stay within the "estimated hours" and did the rest of he job real shabby and too quickly.

The airbags never impeded the use of the truck, they failed while I was on my way to my predetermined next destination of the Rogue River area in southern Oregon, so once I arrived I got them fixed right here. I will spend April 16 to May 16. here basically waiting for "real Spring weather" to arrive so I can head to my next spot just on the border of Nevada...to kayak the various lakes around Lakeview Oregon. Although, I cannot tell a lie...I also planned to be at this RV park in Rogue River area so I have TV hookup....gotta see the Royal Wedding...I just love that stuff...

The mountainsides here are covered in scrubby trees and red madrona trees, a real odd flaura. But lots of fabulous wildlife...tons of deer, skunks, coyotes, wonderful birds that I haven't seen before in Washington...indigo buntings, gray chested jays, yellow crowned sparrows, and countless wild turkeys (not all of them are birds)

kd, do us all a favor and in the Maintenence and Tech blog, there is a spot right above "New Topic" called Kudos and Kudnos. Post your opinion about both places you had work done so future visits to either place will be noted. Thanks!

I think we ALL ought to call Tillamook RV Repair & let the manager, a guy named Mike Burrough (sp?), know how many women all over the country now know what shabby work Stubby has done on the rig belonging to one of our members, AND that we'll make sure that we pass on her experience to everyone we know -- both men and women -- in the RV world.

Ahhh, so Mike & Stubby are one and the same! Well, that won't stop me from making a call. Actually, I've already tried but he won't be in until tomorrow. I'll give him a ring during my recess. ;)
