Hi, all...
Ernie, Spinner, and I arrived at Fort Monroe, VA about Noon today....We are really pleased so far as the CG is located in a peaceful, treed area on a very old Army Post....Unfortunately it is schedule to close in Sept. The original fort was founded in 1609 about the same time as the Jamestown settlement just up the James River. It has served our Country since then until now.....Just the little riding around we did today after settling in the RV Park convinced us that there is much to see and take photos of, which we plan to do tomorrow after we get checked in....(the Office is closed on the weekends, but they did post a sign with our site on it... ) It is also located at the mouth of the Chesapeake Bay right next to Norfolk, VA....so we have a view of the Atlantic Ocean as well as the Bay....Oh, Oh, and Spinner is so thrilled that there is a dedicated "Pet Beach" area for him to run and play.... Ernie let him run some late this afternoon, but to be sure we all will make it a daily event for him and will take LOTS of photos....
If you would like more info on Fort Monroe, VA...just Google it..... lots available to read....rumor has it that the National Park Service is taking over the old fort and area....and that the staff here is hoping that they will keep the campground then too.....
We will be here until next Sunday...so I'm sure I'll be posting lots of photos with some interesting notes.....didn't take many today, as you all know "arrival day" is all about getting settled in.....BTW we are in a 4G Broadband area with our Verizon Data Card and have 5 BARS.... Boy, is it fast....I'll be so spoiled....and then when we get back to the woods and hills around Gettysburg, I'll be bumming....
Until later....
