Love the bird photos. Florida has such a variety of interesting birds.
Kathy, if you want to see a lot of birds without a kayak (lots easier and drier) visit the Audabon Society Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary just northeast of Naples. It is at
http://www.corkscrew.audubon.org/ There is a nice cafe and gift shop with lots of books on birds. There is a two-mile boardwalk, but you can cut across so you only walk about 1/2 of it, if distance is too much. You can also rent binoculars, and there are volunteer naturalists on the boardwalk who will help you identify birds and other wildlife. If you go early in the morning, it is quietest and you will see the most birds. They are so used to visitors, they don't fly away. Wear rubber-soled shoes.
This is one of the few places in florida where you can see a wild cypress forest and marsh. You will see adult and baby alligators and turtles, as well. If you are lucky you will see deer and rare panthers. The swamp is very beautiful with all sorts of huge ferns and orchids, also.
Your photos reminded me that I need to get back there soon. 25 years ago, my kids and I saw thousands of wood storks nesting there, but unfortunately they have moved the boardwalk and close parts of it now when they nest. It was amazing with the tops of the bald cypress trees filled with huge nests of very noisy birds.
