Water Filters

Hi,

Do any of you use water filters on your rig? If so, what type are you using?

most everyone I know uses those $20 ones from Walmart. Good for about 3 months depending on the area your in. For the Phoenix area, the water was really hard and nasty with lots of mineral content. Then of course there is the Brita pitcher filters, which my daughter uses
even at her condo.

I use the ones you get at Wal-Mart or Camping World (same thing different price) on the water coming into the rig. I have it normally right next to the rig as opposed to the faucet. Then I have a drinking spigot inside that I have an additional filter on that for some reason. Some of the cg water isn't tooo great and I don't always have drinking water available. I have convinced myself that if I filter it twice it will taste better. Does it? I don't know.

I sometimes put the filter on, sometimes don't. If I'm staying long term I do - unless I know I really like the water there. When I don't use it, or when I'm using the water from my tank, I use a Brita filter. That's new for me, but I like it. I HATE using all the plastic bottles and filling up our landfills with water that really isn't any better than the water we put filters on - and is less regulated!

I, too, use the blue ones from Walmart. I also use a Brita for my drinking water. I had gotten careless about using a filter for the water coming into my rig then my toilet water slowed almost to a halt. When the RV guy took the toilet off the filter thingy was almost completely blocked with calcium from the water. So now I filter anything coming into my rig. The good news is that the toilet manufacturer PUT a filter on the toilet. The bad news is that the only way to get to it is to remove the toilet. Who designs these things????

Yep Vicki, that's the one. They're blue and attach to your rig then the water hose attaches to it. I also always use a pressure regulator since I talked to someone who had the flimsy hoses inside their rig blown out by high pressure. Live and learn.

Thanks Karen. I always use a pressure regulator also...do you put yours between the hose and the filter or between the filter and the rig? I think I need to get a filter.

I didn't use a regulator just once and the water pressure blew out the valve for my toilet. I got it fixed today. Another lesson learned.

I turn on the water and check pressure - have been places where the regulator regulated too much. Also ruined a regulator when I tried to put it on and they already had them on :)

I usually use two hoses - a short one I attach to the cg line (after the regulator, if needed) then the filter, then the 2nd hose to the rig. If I attempt to attach the filter directly to the rig, well, I caused damage once and had to have the connection on the rig replaced - was told the weight wasn't meant to be pulling on that connection - so the little hose on either end - to avoid that.

I attach the regulator to the water faucet. Then attach the water hose to the regulator. Then attach the water hose to the filter and the filter to the metal-wrapped thingy that comes with the filter and that to the rig. Beth is right, the filter is heavy so you need to use the metal thing that comes with the filter. And the neck bones connected to the shoulder bone, etc.

Earlier this week, I got one of the Pur water filters that you put on the faucet. I was surprised at how much better the water tastes now coming from the faucet. Pretty easy to install too. I got this one at Home Depot.
